OPINION: Charlie Puth Wows Crowd in Toms River Concert
October 16, 2016
Charlie Puth: one of the most underrated musicians on the radio.
On October 13th, I got the privilege to see him live, for the second time. The first time I saw him was for Jingle Ball in 2015, but that did not compare to when I saw him as a solo act.
My friend (and fellow Patriot Press editor) Leah and I saw him in the small venue of Pine Belt Arena in Toms River and originally, we thought we were going to be sitting in the bleachers (the venue is a gymnasium). When we got inside the venue, we saw that all of the bleachers were up, so we questioned a staff member who then gave us free upgrades for floor seats (!!!!!). Leah and I were both freaking out because we only paid $35 for these tickets.
The concert started with Charlie running on stage and singing his song “We Don’t Talk Anymore.” We realized that everyone on the floor starting running towards the stage, so we followed and ended up being two rows away from the stage; it was fantastic.

After he sang his opening song, Charlie continued to switch off between his piano and standing when singing the rest of the setlist: “Some Type of Love,” “Dangerously,” “Left Right Left,” “My Gospel” (my personal favorite), “Losing My Mind,” “Up All Night” (acoustic), “Then There’s You” (acoustic), “Marvin Gaye,” “Does It Feel,” “Suffer,” “One Call Away,” and finally, “See You Again.”
After almost crying my eyes out, becoming deaf in my right ear from standing near the speaker, and spending over $50 on concert merch, it was time to go home.
“The concert was amazing and totally surreal,” Leah said. “Charlie’s voice sounded exceptionally good, which shocked me because usually artists sound awful in comparison to the tracks on their albums.”
Charlie Puth seems like a great guy, and he is definitely a great singer, so if you ever get the chance to see him in concert, I would totally recommend it.
