Blood Drive Coming to FTHS

Leah Emmerich, Editor-in-Chief

On March 4th, Freehold Township will be holding a blood drive in order to help those in need. Most students are eligible to donate, and anybody who does will be granted an hour of community service, and the ebullience of knowing they helped save 3 people’s lives.

This event will be run by certified Red Cross officials, who are well trained in taking and transporting the blood being donated.

The pre-med club of FTHS is responsible for organizing the drive, all the students involved seeing the need for residents of New Jersey to get involved. Our state has the highest demand for blood in order to help people who have lost a significant amount of blood in accidents, surgery, hemophilia, etc. “In fact, New Jersey actually purchases foreign blood to fill our quotas,” says Vice President of the Pre-Med Club, Matt Bernstein. It is safer and more efficient for those who need blood to get it from someone who is closer to their general area. This way, the blood can be tested and transported faster, helping others quicker.

If you are 16 or older you are able to donate, but if you are 17 or older you do not need parental consent. You can get involved in helping by contacting Ms. Vanaucker.
