Mr. FTHS: A Night to Remember

Hailey Ruderman and Victoria Varlack

For the class of 2016, Wednesday, February 17th was a memorable night.  The senior class hosted the school-famous Mr. FTHS. Hundreds of people filled the auditorium waiting to see their favorite seniors make a fool out of themselves.

To help our students, we had a few teachers to judge, DJ and organize the event. Mrs. Arnold, Ms. Michaels and Mrs. Galinski were the fabulous judges for the night, Mr. Mehl was the DJ and Mrs. LaPlaga and Mrs. Kuban were the organizers. The co-hosts of the night were senior girls, Edona Gjeloshi, Deanna Morreale, Victoria Camassa, Sydney Frankel, Emma Hughes and Megan Schulman.

To start off the night, Edona Gjeloshi and Deanna Morreale introduced our contestants and as the opening dance. The dance was very funny and entertaining and definitely a great start for the show.  [wpdevart_youtube]bPCbZ1tpj-c[/wpdevart_youtube]

The contestants then made their individual debut with the lovely co-hosts announcing them. The contestants were: John Carroll, Austin Edelman, Nick Facendo, Ryan Guerino, Jake Kennis, Steven Leone, Mike Christina, Chris Hoskins, Mike Maltese, Gianni Mazzone, Brandon Riso, Lane Shapiro, Nick Curran, Kevin Hobbs, Steve Manzar, James Pezzulo, Eric Rizzitello, Tyler Von Nessen, Matt Gorman, Jonny Kandell, Peter Nielsen, Joe Santitoro, Josh Trif, Henry Bader, Adam Fadiga, Chris Martinez, and Jake Russo. Unfortunately, Quin Cleary had to drop out due to a ski accident that occurred just days before the competition.

The pageant officially started with the swimwear portion. Jake Kennis showed off his physique while coming out in a lifeguard costume, overly lotioned nose and all. He then continued to awe the crowd while “saving” Austin Edelman’s life. Jonny Kandell then made the audience laugh while he came out in a kayak being pulled by Mike Christina.

The group dances were up next. Brandon Riso, Chris Hoskins, Mike Christina, Lane Shapiro, and Gianni Mazzone had a very memorable dance which consisted of Gianni, or “Macho Man,” lifting Brandon over his shoulders and Brandon “dying” and having his group “revive” him. Adam Fadiga, Chris Martinez, Henry Bader and Jake Russo lip synced to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen and pretended to play guitar hero, which made everyone laugh.

The seniors then took a short intermission to show the audience a very funny blooper/ behind the scenes video about what goes on during the Mr. FTHS practices.

The next portion of the competition was everyone’s favorite, the “show your style” part. Nick Facendo walked out with his lovely girlfriend, Jenna Garcia, while he sported a classy vest and bow tie. Henry Bader and his escort turned the seriousness of the portion around by faking a proposal with a bow tie instead of a ring.

For the final event, Victoria Camassa and Sydney Frankel asked the boys some questions. Mike Christina made everyone in the audience “aww” from his answer. His question was “If you were to go out to dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be?” and his answer was simply, “My G (grandpa) because whenever we’re together, we have so much fun. I love you G!” And he then proceeded to wave to him in the audience– how cute! Jake Russo’s question was “if you would be any superhero who would you be and why?” He answered it seriously, yet it was quite funny. He said “I would want to be that one superhero that stretches his arms and legs… Mr. Fantastic! It works with me because I’m already pretty lanky to begin with.”

And just like that, the competition was over! The boys looked like they had a great time, and everyone is so proud of all of them.

The winner for Mr. Congeniality was Henry Bader. When asked about what it was like to win this award he said, “It feels great to be Mr. Congeniality. I would rather have won this than being 1st runner up, so that’s great.”

There was a tie for first runner up! The winners were Eric Rizzitello and Nick Curran. When Eric found out he won first runner up he said, “It’s an amazing feeling. I’m so proud of everyone else who won, too. I had so much fun. I wish I could relive this night.”

Nick Curran had something to add too. “First off, first is the worst and second is the best. But in all seriousness, the entire experience was amazing and allowed me to make new friendships. It wasn’t all about winning, it was about having fun with everyone who contributed to the night and taking part in an amazing event.”

There was also a tie for the overall Mr. FTHS! Joe Santitoro and Jake Kennis both had the highest winning scores of the night. When asked how it felt to be one of the Mr. FTHS’ Jake said “It feels great. It feels really good to have won. The best part of this was the relationships I have made during this time. I have built some life long friends and I have made memories I will never forget. I love Freehold Township and everyone in it.”

Joe added, “It feels amazing to win. I’m never going to forget this night. It was a great way to end my high school career.” Congratulations to all of the contestants of the night!
