Pokemon Go: A Dream Come True
February 17, 2016
Pokemon Go is something that needs to be talked about because it not only revolutionizes the world of videogames, but is probably the coolest thing to ever happen ever. With the Pokemon franchise reaching its 20th anniversary, Nintendo decided to celebrate in the biggest way imaginable: bringing pokemon to life. And no, not in a Jurassic Park way, but on our phones! iPhones and Androids alike will soon be able to download the Pokemon Go app and become a real-world Ash Ketchum. Let me explain:
Don’t Know What Pokemon Go Is?
Unfortunately not that many people do! Watch the first trailer (which is unfortunately super vague) right here: [wpdevart_youtube]2sj2iQyBTQs[/wpdevart_youtube]
If you didn’t get the gist of the video, or totally ignored watching it like a butt, Pokemon Go “will use real location information to encourage players to search far and wide in the real world to discover Pokémon”. (Pokemon.com) You’re going to be able to walk outside with your phone and look for Pokemon! Not much else is known about Pokemon go, but it is set to release within the next 2 months. Exciting!
Why Should You Be Excited?
Because it’s your childhood coming to freakin’ life! Unless you were a Yu-Gi-Oh! kid, which in that case you mean nothing and you are nothing. Anyways, you’re going to be able to walk around your town and find pokemon. You’ll be able to see Caterpies under trees and Poliwags in lakes, Latios and Latias zooming over the school. I know I’m nerding out right now but I really can’t help it. This opens a world of possibilities for fans, and even not-yet fans of the franchise. Plus the app is free, so that’s cool too. In addition to just searching for Pokemon, You’ll also be able to catch and trade them, battle with friends or random strangers on the street, and participate in gym battles!
What Isn’t Yet Known About Pokemon Go?
Unfortunately a lot. Superbowl 50 graciously showed us another commercial for the amazing app, which can be seen here: [wpdevart_youtube]2F46tGehnfo[/wpdevart_youtube] We don’t know how many/which Pokemon will be featured in the game, WE DON’T KNOW THE EXACT FREAKING RELEASE DATE, we don’t know what the starters are (if you even get one) and we don’t know how expensive the in-app purchases are.
What We Do Know About Pokemon Go:
- Super awesome
- Pokemon will be found in locations based on their types and where they would be found in the real games(magikarp in water, zubat in the dark, etc.)
- It’s coming out soon, most likely in the next two months
- The app will be 100% free
- There will be items in the game to collect, trade and use
- Rare pokemon like MewTwo will only be found in certain places for capture (Mewtwo is rumored to be hidden in New York by the way)
- It is real, it’s really really real.
And Finally: The Pokemon Go Plus
Pictured here, this wristband is like no other. When a pokemon is nearby, the wristband will vibrate and alert you. That way you don’t need to constantly be checking your phone, the wristband will do all the work. The wristband will most likely cost money and will most likely be sold at Gamestop and/or Bestbuy. It is something any serious trainer should purchase.
Whether you totally never played Pokemon, or are like me who grew up alongside Pikachu stuffed animals and way too many playing cards, Pokemon Go is something that should (and can!) be experienced by everyone and anyone. Take advantage of the game when it comes out, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Good luck Catchin’ Em All!
Why do I call Pokemon Go a dream come true? Well, in kindergarten we had to write three wishes, and my third wish was for Pokemon to become real. And here we are, 14 years later! Dreams do come true kids, you just gotta believe.R
