Panic! at the Disco’s New Album Makes Everyone Panic

Brendon Urie, the only founding member left in Panic! at the Disco, decided to write and produce his first solo album, even though it will be considered the fifth album since the band formed. The album is titled Death of a Bachelor and debuted No.1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart.

The first single, “Hallelujah,” was released April 20, 2015 without any warning from Urie. The single was the band’s second most popular song after “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” It also appeared on Billboard’s Top 100 chart at No. 40. “Hallelujah” is a favorite by a lot of fans because it has an energetic beat to it. When asked about the song by Alt987FM.com, Urie said, “The spirituality of being able to own up to your sins, as they’re called, and take responsibility for your actions really hit me this time around, and so that song really is about that, it’s, you know, taking responsibility for things that you felt guilty for in the past and just owning it, because, now, that’s a piece of you and you can’t get rid of that history, so, that’s really what it was.”

Fast forward a few months later to the end of September when Urie released another single titled “Victorious.” This song is based around the idea of not letting one mistake get the best of you and ruin you. He told sugarscape.com, “I was never really great at sports… Never picked first for the team but what I missed in that regard, I made up for in passion and intensity… That’s truly victorious. Giving it your all when it’s all you have. Giving ‘em hell to get a taste of heaven.”

The third single to be released off the album was on October 21, 2015 titled “Emperor’s New Clothes” and later that day a music video followed to go along with the song. If you’ve heard Panic! at the Disco before you would know one of the songs from the previous album titled “This is Gospel,” the music video for “Emperors new Clothes” was basically a part two to the “This is Gospel” music video. The meaning behind the song is taking back your power, or in this case the “crown.”

The fourth single to be released was on November 26, 2015 and was titled “LA Devotee.” This song is a fast and upbeat song about a long night in Los Angeles, falling in love and doing everything you can to keep this person in your sight.

The fifth and last single to be released before the actual album was released was on December 31, 2015, titled “Don’t Threaten me With a Good Time.” This upbeat song is based on doing bad things and getting drunk. In the song, he warns us not to “tempt” and “threaten” him because it will lead to bad outcomes.

Urie made a public announcement on Facebook saying the date of the album release, which was expected to be released January 15, 2016. After he announced this, fans literally panicked. Nobody knew what to expect with this album. Once the album was released, people all over social media talked about it. The album went viral quickly and everyone had something to say about it.  Sophomore Alexa Bayne states, “I think the album is amazing, it is a mixture of Beyonce and Frank Sinatra.” Not everyone has an opinion like that, but hers surely does clear up the genre of this album.
