Homecoming Victory!
November 2, 2015
It has finally happened! After 6 long years of Township losing the homecoming game, this year’s football team defeated Edison, with a final score of 52-28.
The crowd was alive and full of energy, a sea of students in Colombia blue flooding the stands. The temperature may have been dropping, but the fans were feeling the heat as the Patriots entered the field. The student section hyped everyone up, urging everybody to stand up and cheer for the team as the game began.
The boys started off strong, with Tyrique Hall making a 55 yard touchdown not 10 minutes into the game. Edison fought back hard, scoring a touchdown a short while afterwards, but the Patriots had their mind set on the W. Anthony Lotti scored a 60 yard touchdown, taking the team a step closer to victory. Edison caught up again, attempting to intimidate Township, yet were unsuccessful.
The teams went back and forth and eventually tied up the game at 21-21 for halftime. Halftime began with a fast paced, fun performance from the cheerleaders, who had already been doing the job of leading the fans in chants since the start of the game. The girls were followed by the band, who stuck to their Back to the Future theme, reminding us that we’re not half as technologically advanced as the people of the 80’s thought we would be.
Tensions began to run high as it inched closer and closer to the moment homecoming king and queen would be announced. The couples had a quick ride in their golf carts, racing back to find out who won the popular vote of the senior class.
This years homecoming king is Jonny Kandell (a Patriot Press editor!). And by his side, Allie Hagger, homecoming queen.
The game started up again, both teams just as hype as they were when everything began. Edison fought hard, but Township continued to outsmart and out play the Eagles, giving themselves a lead of 24 points by the time the game wrapped up.
History was made by not only the football team on homecoming night, but the school pride and school spirit that was shown was at an all time high. There is just no getting in between the bleacher creatures and their beloved team.
