Greetings, and welcome back to October Horror Fest! Today is the day 10 special, and HOLY, how perfect of a day to be the special! Today, me and my friend attended New York Comic Con, just like I told you all yesterday! And WOW, the Blumhouse Panel was just as amazing as I thought it would be. We learned LOTS about FNAF, Black Phone, and MUCH more. As Blumhouse is a bit “hush hush”, I can’t reveal everything I saw, but I CAN say that you ALL need to be ready for Black Phone and FNAF! It will blow you away! On the way back home (I’m currently on the train now), me and my friend decided to watch a short “horror” film. However, it was just as masterful as something scarier, and something feature length. Get ready, readers! Without further ado, sit back, relax, grab some Candy and Popcorn, and let’s review…
Toy Story of Terror
Our short film (94% on Rotten Tomatoes btw) begins with the Toy Story gang watching a horror film. Bonnie and her mother are heading home throughout a CRAZY storm, and decide to spend the night at a motel, as the car needs to be fixed. However, before the gang pulls into the mall, the car rattles, and Jessie goes FLYING back into the trunk. She falls into one of Bonnie’s suitcases, and begins to panic. Buzz and the rest of the toys are able to get her out, but Jesse has flashbacks from her time in the box, and she feels horrified she was in another. (the depictions of panic are spot on and are so well done)
At the motel, during the night, Potato Head decides to explore the motel to get some free things. This leads to all of the toys splitting off into the motel, and Jesse once again fears being alone. The tots are found, EXCEPT Potato Head. Finding his footprints after he stepped in some sort of liquid, the gang ventures into the vents to find him, being guided by his disembodied arm. However, in the vents, SOMETHING begins whisking away the toys one by one. Buzz, Woody, and Jessie end up being the last toys standing, as Jessie encounters “Combat Carl”, a toy voiced by the legendary Carl Weathers.
Buzz and Woody are soon whisked away, after Carl warns Jessie to stay away from “SOMETHING”. Carl eventually gets whisked away himself, and Jessie runs to the bath tub, trying to hide. However, her efforts are in vain, as a Bearded Dragon appears!!! It takes Jessie hostage, and brings her to his owner. His owner is a toy collector (who runs the motel), and is trying to find all the lost toys in the vents and sell them!!! Jessie finds all the gang encased in glass, and they try to find a way out and back to Bonnie. However, Woody is taken away and packaged, being prepared to be sold to the highest bidder.
Knowing that they have to save him, Jessie is taken out of the glass container by the collector, and bides her time to save Woody. Combat Carl tells Jessie that the only hope is for her to get into a box and get into the truck housing Woody. Jessie FREAKS OUT, but is given a pep talk by Combat Carl. With newfound confidence, Jessie takes a deep breath, and heads into a box. HOWEVER, SHE IS TAPED IN BY A WORKER! Jessie begins hyperventilating, until she remembers Combat Carl’s words, and finds a way. She searches the box, and finds a paperclip. She uses it to unbox herself and Woody, and head back to save all the other toys from captivity. After a “final boss battle” with the Bearded Dragon, the toys are all reunited, and head home happy and safe with Bonnie. Although, the horrors of the events still haunt our beloved group…
THERE WE HAVE IT! Although not “scary”, this short was masterful in portraying the fears of taking on a HUGE responsibility. (The scary bits were amazing too). I know that this special didn’t have EVERYTHING, but Blumhouse was AMAZING, and this short was too. You bet your bottom dollar I’m not losing the challenge, and regular full length uploads will return shortly!!! I hope you all enjoyed it! And always remember, you never give up, you MUST find a way…
