On Friday, October 3rd, Freehold Township High School had its 2025 Homecoming Tailgate–an annual homecoming festivity that brings students from all grade levels together to support their school and demonstrate real Patriot pride.
Staff members like Mr. Leahy were on hand barbecuing hot dogs and hamburgers, which were offered for free to the student body. Members of the student government helped the event run smoothly by distributing food and setting up a table stocked with snacks and water; this was very appreciated as the warm weather made everyone eager for some refreshments.
One of the most popular parts of the tailgate is always the music, and this year was no different. A DJ booth was present, playing many popular songs and helping contribute to the upbeat atmosphere, attracting more students and increasing the overall mood of the event.
The National Art Honor Society ran their own tables offering free face painting and henna art–always a fan favorite. By the end of the event, nearly everyone at the Tailgate had some form of face paint, even our own Dr. Dow, who joined in on the fun! The FTHS cheerleaders also set up a station where students could get hair tinsel and brightly colored hairspray. Meanwhile, the Class of 2027’s student government hosted a bracelet-making table and collected donations for their class.
Throughout the afternoon, our very own mascot, the Patriot, roamed the event, taking photos with people and helping boost homecoming spirit. When asked how it feels to be the Patriot, they said it feels “pretty good,” even though they “weren’t expecting to get this opportunity.” On the topic of school spirit and the upcoming football game, they added, “I have faith in our school. Even if we lose, I still have faith in the team.”
Overall, the 2025 Tailgate was a clear success. With a satisfying turnout, fun activities, and palpable school spirit radiating from everyone in attendance, it was a perfect way to conclude the homecoming season – serving as a reminder of what being a Patriot is all about.
