The NFL is BACK! The first week of the season spanned a Philly premiere to a Windy City close. Here is everything you need to know about week one of the 2025 NFL season!
Weather delay, Carter ejection not enough to stop the Eagles from beating the Cowboys, 24-20, in NFL season premiere
The champs picked up where they left off by beating their division rivals at home, with the ground game responsible for the only touchdowns of the night: 2 rushing TDs for both Jalen Hurts (PHI) and Javonte Williams (DAL), and one for Saquon Barkley. CeeDee Lamb had 7 receptions for 110 yards, but the most notable part of his night came after numerous dropped passes. The NFL also ruled that Jalen Carter’s single-game suspension for spitting on Dallas QB Dak Prescott had already been served in this game, since no time had ticked off the clock prior to his ejection on the opening kickoff. This season-opener had everything that could’ve gone wrong!
Chargers defeat Chiefs for the first time in 1,441 days, 27-21, in Sao Paolo
A 2 TD day for Quentin Johnston, as well as Keenan Allen’s first TD with the Chargers after a year away from the team, is enough for Justin Herbert to hold off Mahomes and the Chiefs in Brazil. Their previous victory against KC was all the way back on September 26th, 2021, at Arrowhead Stadium.
Buccaneers survive on late Falcons missed field goal to win on the road, 23-20
Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo has been benched for week 2 after missing a 44-yard field goal that would have evened the score late in the fourth against a stacked Bucs squad. The South Korea native and former NJ resident Koo will be replaced by John Parker Romo, who displayed flashes of starter-caliber kicking last season. Bucs kicker Chase McLaughlin also missed a PAT on the previous touchdown drive. TB rookie Emeka Egbuka had 4 receptions for 67 yards and 2 TDs in his debut, showing a serious poise and promise that make his draft position seem increasingly justified.
Daniel Jones nearly shuts out Dolphins in Colts debut, 33-8
Jones kicks off his quest to prove New York Giants fans wrong as he gives the Colts their first season-opening win since 2013. The future is not looking bright for Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel or Colts backup QB Anthony Richardson, as the newly dubbed “Indiana Jones” steamrolls past Miami in week one.
Bengals fight annual week 1 jitters by clinging onto a win in Cleveland, 17-16
A missed field goal by Browns kicker Andre Szmyt and an interception thrown by 41-year-old QB Joe Flacco later… and the Bengals have successfully escaped their annual first day jitters with a 17-16 win in Cleveland. The most impressive aspect of the Browns’ offense proved to be their dual threat of rookie RBs, with Raheim “Rocket” Sanders scoring his first NFL touchdown in quarter one, and Tennessee product Dylan Sampson leading the team in receptions.
Steelers, Aaron Rodgers rally late in fourth quarter to beat the Jets on the road, 34-32
What else is new for Gang Green? The Jets gave up two touchdowns in under a minute to put Pittsburgh up 31-26 after being up 26-17 to start the fourth quarter. KR/PR Xavier Gipson was released after a lost fumble on a kickoff, which led to the second of said touchdowns for Rogers and Co. While the Jets still managed to go up 32-31 with a failed two-point conversion, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell then hit a career-long 60-yard field goal, and the Steelers turned the Jets over on downs to seal the deal. QB Aaron Rodgers went 22/30 for 244 yards and 4 TDs in his Steelers debut.
Packers, Micah Parsons stun division rival Lions at home, 27-13
It will stand the test of time for Detroit to get used to its new coordinators, John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard. Meanwhile, the Packers make their case to win the NFC North, as Micah Parsons recorded one sack in his Green Bay debut, adding to what appears to be a suffocating Packers defense. However, a bright spot came for Detroit in garbage time, with rookie WR Isaac TeSlaa making an acrobatic one-handed grab to haul in his first career touchdown.
49ers, Rams win games by forcing late fumbles
The 49ers made sure to spoil Seahawks QB Sam Darnold’s debut with a road win, topping the Hawks 17-13. However, they will be without Brock Purdy and George Kittle for a bit due to injuries. Backup TE Jake Tonges’s first NFL touchdown was the go-ahead score, after Nick Bosa forced a Seattle fumble on the SF 9 with under a minute remaining to save the game for the Niners.
The Rams held off the Texans, 14-9, as Houston’s nine points only came from field goals. Rams WR Davis Allen hauled in his first career touchdown in the third quarter, and the Rams recovered a Texans fumble at the LA 24 to seal the victory.
Scorigami! Bills erase 15-point deficit in under five minutes to defeat the Ravens 41-40 on Sunday Night Football
Interim Bills kicker Matt Prater hits a buzzer-beating 32-yard field goal to complete a 15-point fourth-quarter comeback over Baltimore. Josh Allen went 33/46 for 394 yards and 2 TDs passing, and another 14 carries for 30 yards and 2 TDs on the ground in the league’s first-ever 41-40 final score. Sunday Night Football starts the season with an all-time game, and one that will be very hard to top in future weeks.
JJ McCarthy makes 11-point fourth quarter comeback in NFL debut to beat the Bears on Monday Night Football, 27-24, on the road
The “Not Rookie” QB McCarthy finished his NFL debut 13/20 for 143 yards, 2 TD, and an INT. While JJ failed to generate any meaningful yards in the first three quarters, he came out firing in the fourth, and bolstered the faith that the Vikings organization threw behind him this past offseason with an unexpected win. Meanwhile, the Bears’ offensive line seems to be improving by the minute. Maybe this is the year Caleb Williams reaches the infamous 4,000 passing yard threshold as a Bear.
