July 2025 was a CRAZY month for cinema. From dinosaurs to superheroes, it seems like the three big studios (Universal, Warner Bros, and Disney) were ready to clash once again! Let’s review all three of the big movies that came out this summer, how they fared in the competitive box office, and if sequels are underway for any one of them! My name is Danny, a film buff who has seen every single one of the July 2025 films, and I’m very excited to talk about them all!
Jurassic World: Rebirth
The next installment in the world of Dinosaurs was released on July 2nd, 2025 to a HUGE opening weekend. Thanks to the star power of Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, the film was able to rake in $856,445,644 at the worldwide box office (as of time of writing). Although the budget of the film is between $180-$220 million dollars, this return is MASSIVE for Universal! Was the movie any good, however? Well, that’s where we ran into our first speed bump. Rebirth is at 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 71% on the Popcorn meter; showing that audiences and critics alike weren’t too jazzed with the plot of hunting dinosaurs and saving the human race. Was this movie fun, however? Totally! Having seen Rebirth a few days before it was released, I was extraordinarily happy with it. Did it have some problems? Of course, however, it made me laugh the entire way through. I totally recommend checking out Jurassic World: Rebirth!
Superman
Here we go! The movie everyone is talking about, Superman, was released on July 11th, 2025, sandwiched between our three big releases. Superman, however, is arguably the biggest hit of the summer, box office results inside. Superman sits at an 83% critic score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, a huge win for Warner Bros and the newly founded DC Studios. DC and James Gunn had to score big with Superman, and I’m proud to say they have. Superman tells the story of Clark and his humanity brilliantly, raking in $611,614,671 at the worldwide box office (as of time of writing) on a $200 million dollar budget. Not as big a win as Rebirth, but incredible nonetheless. Although I am a lifelong Marvel fan, Superman filled me with joy, happiness, and laughs. I am proud to say it might be my favorite movie of the summer, and that kindness is the true “punk rock”.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Fantastic Four was my most anticipated movie of the summer, and it did not disappoint! With the job of setting up the conclusion of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, F4 prevailed in ways I could not believe. Releasing on July 25th, 2025, First Steps sits at an 87% critic score and a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming the most well received movie of the July showdown. Led by Pedro Pascal, the movie was able to fill me with so much excitement for the future, and had a truly heartfelt story set OUTSIDE the MCU. With a budget of approximately $200 million, First Steps has grossed $507,802,663 at the worldwide box office (as of time of writing). Although the film didn’t have the return Marvel wanted, it certainly had a big one nonetheless. If you are ready to watch Robert Downey Jr. and the Multiverse Saga come to a head in Avengers: Doomsday, I HIGHLY recommend First Steps!
Final Thoughts
Well, there we have it! All three of the movies from the July showdown were mostly loved by audiences, and especially loved by me. I was so happy seeing each and every one of the characters come to life on the silver screen, and I am very excited to see what comes next! It’s important to remember the lessons that our heroes on the screen teach us, and to stay excited about what comes next!
