As summer break comes to an end, the Freehold Township girls are ready to swing into a new season of tennis. With returning players, a new star freshman, and high hopes for the year, the team is looking stronger than ever.
Last year, the team had a solid season, finishing with a winning record of 8-6 and achieving notable wins against other competitive schools such as Old Bridge and Middletown North. One big change coming this year is the loss of player Anya Dureja, who graduated and is now off to college. She played first singles for the past four years and was a huge part of the team, both on and off the court. Her presence will definitely be missed this year.
Here is what to expect for the 2025 season:
Coach Leahy is back again for his fifth year of leading the team to victory. Two key players returning this year are Julia Coniglio and Atreyi Menon. Julia, a sophomore, is returning after an impressive freshman year to resume her spot at second singles. Atreyi Menon, a senior and this year’s captain, is also resuming her place in third singles. They are eager to bring their talent and knowledge to the court.
A new face to look out for is Avani Menon. Despite only being a freshman, she already attained the position of first singles. With her little time on the team, she has shown incredible skill and determination on the court.
As of now, we have a packed season ahead. We kick things off with three back-to-back games: September 3rd, home against Ranney, September 4th, home against Howell, and September 5th, away against Freehold Borough. The following week features Shore Regional at home on September 8th, then away at Red Bank Catholic on September 9th, and finishing with SJV on the 10th. On September 12th, the team heads to Matawan, followed by back-to-back away games against Middletown South on the 15th, Manalapan on the 16th, and Middletown North on the 18th. Then on to the last three games scheduled as of now, which are September 25th, home against Wall, September 26th, home against Colts Neck, and lastly September 29th, away against Toms River South.
With a great mix of experienced returning players and promising newcomers, the team is prepared to go all out!
