Enough to apparently feature the first trade in CFB, a QB battle featuring two brothers, and the kidnapping and shootout to save a pastor, just to answer your question.
Context
Going back to December 21, 2024, the Tennessee Vols headed up to the supposed “Neyland North” to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Led by the disgraced Will Howard and the man who everyone wants his head on a silver platter, Ryan Day, the Vols had the chance to upset a team that lost in the biggest rivalry to their unranked enemy, Michigan. Being led by freshman phenom of Nice Iamaleav(y)a, and blue-chip RB prospect, and a ferocious defense, the Vols look to gain their first playoff win since the age of the sheriff.
Instead, they got beaten, bruised, annihilated, gunned down, etc. 42-17.
Afterwards, fans still had high expectations for the Vols the next year, thinking that with more experience and new, young talent, this team could finally capture the SEC since the sheriff. What happened then?
NIL…or lack of NIL
Before the Vols’ spring game, there were apparent contract extensions between Nico and the University of Tennessee. Plans were that Nico didn’t receive his entirety of NIL funds(which, mind you, was the only reason why he committed to Tennessee), and between him, his agent, and the university, more money wanted to be added to his pocket. He apparently had an actual contract, 2.2 million per year, but wanted to extend that to four. Would he end up receiving his money? Of course not, this isn’t the NFL, and ultimately led to him entering the transfer portal. Josh Heupel’s comments on the matter remained professional, saying ultimately, “No one is ever bigger than the Program”, yet wishing Nico the best. So,o how did that go for Nico so far?
- Entered the transfer portal, and rumors then said he would transfer to UCLA.
- At first, rumors say no, then he does commit to UCLA On Easter, he will only receive $800,000 after taxes due to California State Law
- “So he complains about our offense and he transfers to checks notes UCLA” – r/ElJefeApex
- Day Later, UCLA QB Joey Aguliar announces he will enter the transfer portal, played at Appalachian State in 2024, and transferred to UCLA in December!
- Commits to Tennessee, First ever trade in CFB(Technically)
- Out of Nowhere, backup Arkansas QB Madden Iamaleava(Yes, he’s the brother of Nico), enters the transfer portal, rumors saying he’s going to go to UCLA
- Commits to UCLA, the first-ever QB Battle between brothers
Want something more insane? Maryville pastor Josh Sullivan had apparently been kidnapped at gunpoint during a missionary trip in South Africa. Yet even after this, he had been miraculously unharmed and managed to be reunited with his family a week later. One of the first things he knew about after the incident?
The Nico Situation. Said “He was upset over Nico.”
And people say college football isn’t as big as the NFL. Yet now with that, the apparent drama has finally come to an end. Joey Aguliar will get the chance to shine bright in the biggest conference in CFB. Madden and Nico will have a brotherly duel for the ages to see who will lead the Bruins to the playoffs. Only problem? They were the #118 ranked offense last year…and they get to play the likes of Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana, and UNLV, all ranked last year. GGs.
