It’s April. The NFL Draft is approaching fast, and teams are finalizing their draft plans while new developments occur that impact the draft cycle. With so much that has gone on, let’s put it all together.
- The Titans select Cam Ward, QB, Miami.
All signs point to the Titans selecting Cameron Ward, a talented, poised quarterback who will benefit from a revamped offensive line, a strong by-committee of running backs, and a dynamic group of young pass catchers that will stimulate development quickly.
- The Browns select Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State.
The Browns could use help on the defensive line and will find it in Abdul Carter. He is pretty much Micah Parsons Lite and will perform admirably as a partner to Myles Garrett. Expect him to ramp up the Cleveland pass rush in a big way.
- The Giants select Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado.
The Giants could use help at both wide receiver and cornerback. Wherever they decide to play him, Travis Hunter will fill a need, and his dynamic playmaking ability will bring the same excitement that Odell Beckham Jr brought to New York ten years ago.
- The Patriots select Will Campbell, OT, LSU.
Will Campbell may have some concerns about his wingspan but he has proven himself worthy of a franchise left tackle spot. He will be a key building block for the Drake Maye era should he wind up in New England.
- The Jaguars select Mason Graham, DT, Michigan.
The pick just makes sense—Mason Graham goes to Jacksonville, joins Travon Walker and Josh Allen, and creates a true Sacksonville 2.0 reminiscent of 2017’s defense. Graham is a refined player who can be an instant-impact starter.
- The Raiders select Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona.
The Raiders desperately need pass-catching weapons for Geno Smith. In Tet McMillan, they have a big but fast receiver with great hands and a knack for creating mismatches all over the field. For the Raiders, this is their version of DK Metcalf.
- The Jets select Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State.
The Jets need as many run-blocking assets as possible to open up a run-heavy offense. Tyler Warren had a lot of run blocking to do at Penn State, but was also a high-volume pass catcher and the focal point of their offense.
- The Panthers select Mike Green, EDGE, Marshall.
Mike Green may have played at Marshall, but his productive tendencies from leading the nation in sacks carried into an awesome Senior Bowl week. It is clear Green will fit very nicely into the Panthers’ defensive scheme, one built around lighter edge rushers.
- The Saints select Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado.
The Saints have always been in cap trouble, thanks in part to Derek Carr eating up a lot of money. By drafting Shedeur Sanders, Kellen Moore has himself a franchise quarterback for the future who could step in as a rookie if/when Carr underperforms.
- The Bears select Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State.
The Bears have a near-complete roster with almost no major holes. However, having a second running back will help. Ashton Jeanty and D’Andre Swift will make this offense even more complete. Bears fans can finally prepare to be happy again.
- The 49ers select Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas.
With the losses suffered in the offseason, San Francisco needs a makeover in their secondary. Jahdae Barron can play either safety or cornerback and has the speed to cover anybody. Best believe he’s the Charvarius Ward replacement for the 49ers.
- The Cowboys select Kelvin Banks, OT, Texas.
The Cowboys’ offense struggled with Tyler Guyton starting at left tackle, and Zack Martin’s retirement does not help. Kelvin Banks can fill either hole, but he will greatly improve the Cowboys’ offense if he kicks out to left tackle and moves Guyton back to his more natural position of right tackle.
- The Dolphins select Armand Membou, OT, Missouri.
Like Banks, Armand Membou has tackle and guard flexibility, and like the Cowboys, the Dolphins need help at both tackle and guard. Consider this a strong fit.
- The Colts select Shemar Stewart, EDGE, Texas A&M.
The Colts’ defense needs as much help as it can get. In Shemar Stewart, they will have a guy who can contribute right away to their run defense while he develops his pass rush skills. The ceiling in Stewart is high and will be reached as long as everything’s right.
- The Falcons select Mykel Williams, EDGE, Georgia.
The Falcons need some heavier guys on the edge than lightweight Leonard Floyd. Enter Mykel Williams, a Georgia standout who can be effective right away in both phases of defensive play and will be an instant starter in the Falcons’ shallow front seven.
- The Cardinals select Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss.
Jonathan Gannon has Josh Sweat but he needs his Fletcher Cox. Walter Nolen is an uber-talented prospect who can fill the every-down defensive tackle role and can develop under the stewardship of Calais Campbell in Year one.
- The Bengals select Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia.
With the Bengals’ defense soon to be depleted, the front seven needs help soon. Jalon Walker has pass-rushing chops but can also play off the ball if necessary. He can replace either Germaine Pratt or Trey Hendrickson (whoever leaves first).
- The Seahawks select Tyler Booker, OG, Alabama.
Seattle seems to be really into the offensive line class this year. Tyler Booker is the most refined guard in the class and will instantly upgrade a rushing offense and offensive line that was downright abysmal in 2024.
- The Buccaneers select Nick Emmanwori, SF, South Carolina.
The Buccaneers secondary was a let down in 2024, so they need all the help they can get over the top. Nick Emmanwori is a special athlete who can do everything a safety needs to do. He’ll give the run support a little extra juice.
- The Broncos select Matthew Golden, WR, Texas.
The Broncos need a pure deep threat to stretch the field and take advantage of Bo Nix’s arm. Matthew Golden has proven sub-4.3 speed, and he will be hard for even the fastest corners and safeties to cover one-on-one.
- The Steelers select Omarion Hampton, RB, UNC
The Steelers need a bruising, donwhill running back for their run-oriented offense. Omarion Hampton is not only a downhill bruiser, he looks like he’ll be way more efficient gaining yards than his predecessor, Najee Harris.
- The Chargers select Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan.
With Najee Harris now a Charger, Jim Harbaugh can refocus his approach to defense. And he knows a guy. Kenneth Grant is a highly athletic nose tackle who gives the Chargers the mammoth interior presence their run defense needs.
- The Packers select Will Johnson, CB, Michigan.
Will Johnson was not healthy often in 2024. But he was insanely good when he was healthy. In the Packers’ defense he can replace Eric Stokes and be the lockdown CB1 for the future (when Jaire Alexander potentially decides to leave Green Bay).
- The Vikings select Malaki Starks, SF, Georgia.
Harrison Smith can’t be around forever, so the Vikings must look for a replacement. Malaki Starks can support run defense, but will be best covering over the top as a free safety, replacing the recently departed Camryn Bynum.
- The Texans select Grey Zabel, OG, North Dakota State.
The Texans offensive line was atrocious enough to hold them back in 2024. It needs help fast. Grey Zabel can offer that help playing either guard or center for Houston, who let go of two key veterans in Shaq Mason and Laremy Tunsil this offseason.
- The Rams select Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama.
Linebacker has been a consistent weak point in the Rams’ defense. It ends here with the selection of Jihaad Campbell, a New Jersey native who is arguably the best athlete amongst his position group this year.
- The Ravens select James Pearce, EDGE, Tennessee.
The Ravens could use some extra explosiveness in their pass rush. James Pearce is light, but his run defense has been improving, and he is downright dangerous as a pass rusher. Consider this yet another steal by Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta.
- The Lions select Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri.
The Lions’ offense could use a pure WR3. Luther Burden lined up in various roles for Missouri this year, and he looks to be a very solid addition to an already dynamic passing attack. Dan Campbell will definitely quash the “diva” concerns.
- The Commanders select Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan.
The Commanders need a vertical tight end for the future. Enter Colston Loveland, an uber-athletic tight end prospect who was often Michigan’s most dangerous receiving weapon and can add tons of explosiveness to complement Jayden Daniels.
- The Bills select Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky.
Maxwell Hairston is a speed demon who can blanket receivers in man coverage. Alongside Christian Benford and Taron Johnson, he can be a force to be reckoned with as a Buffalo Bill.
- The Chiefs select Donovan Jackson, OG, Ohio State.
The Kansas City Chiefs need to replace Joe Thuney if they are to go back to the Super Bowl for a record-tying fourth time in a row. Donovan Jackson was not only a stalwart guard at Ohio State, but he performed admirably at left tackle—a position he never played before—and helped the Buckeyes to their first national title in a decade. - The Eagles select Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon.
The Eagles need a pass-rushing threat to replace the recently departed Milton Williams. In Derrick Harmon, they have someone with twenty pounds more weight but very similar tendencies as a pass rusher. I expect the Eagles to remain contenders next year, but they will need someone like Harmon to fill Milton Williams’ hole.
