What led to Gene Hackman’s death?
Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakwa, and their dog were found dead in their home on February 26, 2025. Detectives found that Betsy passed days before Gene. They both died of different causes. Hackman had a heart disease as well as Alzheimer’s, which led to his death. However, they found him in a position that indicates a fall. Betsy passed from a contagious respiratory illness spread by rodents called Hantavirus. In addition to this, there was a pill bottle found near her body with pills scattered around the room. He was a famous actor who starred in many films across many decades. His most famous films were “The French Connection,” The Conversation,” and “Unforgiven.” He won an Academy Award in 1972 for “The Conversation.” His career ended in 2004. A court on 3/31/25 finally allowed for the release of the details about Gene Hackman’s death to the public. The judge from New Mexico also allowed for the potential release of body camera footage, as well as sensitive information and images relating to the death and investigation. Living family members wish for the information to be kept sealed to protect the integrity of the couple. In accordance with New Mexico law, however, no sensitive images or medical information can be shared with the public. Despite the wishes, investigations and autopsy reports are deemed public information.
