For these week’s games, it’ll make you wonder how in the world these games ended up happening for Weeks 3 and 4. 5 of the 6 being close, with one of them being a possible game of the year (if it weren’t on the CW), teams being exposed as frauds, and teams that could have had a chance at the Playoffs, but Arizona State ran off with one of the spots, after:
Week 3:
Arizona St @ Texas St: Arizona St wins 31-28
Our CFB attendee Sun Devils weren’t exactly the world beaters at the start of the season. Instead, they were in a dogfight with…Texas State, of all teams, is in an away match. Now with hindsight, thankfully, this game didn’t go the other way for them, because this would have the committee scratching their heads about entering the Playoffs.
Georgia @ Kentucky: Georgia wins 13-12
This game immediately raised concerns about, former #1, Georgia, and their ability to dismantle low-end teams. Facing off against a former QB, you’d think they’d be able to manhandle any remains at Kroger Field right? Instead, it came down to the absolute last minute for them to just finally escape with the win…and immediately lose to Alabama the next time they played against each other.
Memphis @ Florida St: 20-12
So…it was about this time that people realized that Florida State was just bad this year. Mike Norvell, against the very former team that he had coached, laid an egg. Offense was as well-coached as the Bears, Defense letting a Group of 5 team score and run over them at will, and an overall catastrophe that spiraled into the abysmal season that was the Florida State Seminoles.
Week 4:
San Jose St @ Washington St: Washington St wins 54-52 (2OT)
One of the greatest games that were played this season was a random G5 Vs Pac-12 castoff on a Friday Night, on the CW Network. You wanna know about this guy named Nick Nash whose name was under the radar throughout the season? He had 16 receptions for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. His RB, Floyd Chalk, ran for 11/94/2. Emmett Brown threw 375 for 4 TDS for the sake of the world! And Washington State’s Dylan Paine ended it with a Touchdown of his own in Overtime, a truly legendary game that must be seen with your own eyes.
Kansas St @ BYU: BYU wins 38-9
Kansas State was looked at as a representative of the BIG12 for the CFB. Unfortunately, they got crushed, demolished, and torn apart by…BYU? In hindsight, this BYU team had serious firepower and could have gotten to the CFB with ease if it weren’t for some Jayhawks. It’s one of the games that makes you go, “Wait, this team got crushed by them?!”
Buffalo @ NIU: Buffalo wins 23-20 (OT)
Remember when NIU was ranked #23 after upsetting Notre Dame in possibly one of the greatest upsets of all time? Their time in the poles came to a rather crushing end, as they would end up getting upset by Buffalo the next week they played in. They’d at least both get to a bowl game and win one, so it wasn’t the worst outcome in the world, although they were seen as a dark horse for the CFB.
