This NBA trade deadline can be arguably considered the best trade deadline in NBA History, with the biggest trade in NBA history happening within it. Today, I will be going through the biggest trades that happened during this deadline, and giving my thoughts on each one.
Trade 1
Wizards Acquire: Marcus Smart, Colby Jones, Alex Len, 2025 First
Grizzlies Acquire: 2 Second’s, Marvin Bagley lll, Johnny Davis
Kings Acquire: Jake LaRavia
This trade is not the biggest, but still relevant. The Wizards acquire a very solid player in Marcus Smart as well as some draft capital as they continue their rebuild. The Grizzlies get some minor draft capital and 2 players who have not proven themselves yet but can be developed under the right coaching. The Kings also get a solid young player in Jake LaRavia.
Trade 2
Raptors Acquire: Brandon Ingram
Pelicans Acquire: Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynk, First, Second
I don’t understand this trade for the Raptors. They are definitely in rebuilding mode, yet they are doing a win-now sort of trade by giving up draft capital for a guy like Brandon Ingram. This doesn’t make sense to me. The haul the Pelicans got is not terrible, but I feel they could have gotten slightly more for a guy of Ingram’s caliber.
Trade 3
Warriors Acquire: Jimmy Butler, 2 Seconds, Cash considerations
Heat Acquire: Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Andersen, Davion Mitchell, 2025 Protected First
Jazz Acquire: Josh Richardson, K.J. Martin, 2028 Second, 2031 Second, Cash Considerations
Pistons Acquire: Lindy Waters III, Dennis Schroder, 2031 Second
Raptors Acquire: P.J. Tucker, 2026 Second, Cash Considerations
This is one of the biggest trades of this deadline. The Heat are finally able to send away Jimmy, who has brought nothing but drama all season, and got a solid haul for him. Wiggins is a very solid player and will easily slot into the starting lineup. Kyle Andersen and Davion Mitchell are also very solid players. I like the Warriors getting Butler in this case. I feel he slots in well and gives the Warriors a very much-needed #2 option as they compete for a title in Curry’s final seasons.
Trade 4
Cavaliers Acquire: De’Andre Hunter
Hawks Acquire: Caris Levert, Georges Niang, 3 Seconds, 2 Pick Swaps
A very underrated trade in my opinion. De’Andre Hunter is a great player who was averaging big numbers coming off the Hawks bench. He now gets the opportunity to do great things on a contending team like the Cavaliers. I’m not exactly sure why the Hawks traded Hunter as he was having such a good season. After losing Johnson for the season, it seems the Hawks are unsure of whether they should go all in and compete for the playoffs, or begin tanking for a higher draft pick.
Trade 5
Bucks Acquire: Kyle Kuzma, Jericho Sims, 2025 Second, 2026 Second
Wizards Acquire: Khris Middleton, A.J. Johnson, 2028 First pick swap
Knicks Acquire: Delon Wright, Draft rights to Hugo Besson, Cash Considerations
Spurs Acquire: Patrick Baldwin Jr., Cash Considerations
I don’t understand this trade for the Bucks. Kyle Kuzma has been having an off-season and does not provide you much more than what Middleton would provide. Not to mention, you are giving up your first-round pick from this season. I think this trade is good for the Wizards, as they are finally moving on from Kuzma and are getting a solid player in Middleton in this trade. My Knicks are getting rid of Sims who was terrible, and are getting back a solid defensive player in Wright.
Trade 6
Clippers Acquire: Bogdan Bogdanovic
Hawks Acquire: Terence Mann, Bones Hyland, 2025 Second, 2026 Second, 2027 Second
I really like this trade for the Hawks. Bogdanovic was not providing this team with much, and in return, they got a solid player in Mann, a young promising player in Hyland, as well as solid draft capital. I don’t understand why the Clippers gave up so much for a guy like Bogdanovic, I feel kike they overpaid on this one.
Trade 7
Hornets Acquire: Jusuf Nurkic, 2026 First
Sund Acquire: Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic, 2026 Second
This trade also is not very big, but I wanted to talk about it as I thought it was good the Suns moved on from Nurkic. He was not providing them with much, and it is good that an older team like this acquired some draft capital, as the Suns do not have much after the Durant and Beal trades.
Trade 8
Kings Acquire: Jonas Valanciunas
Wizards Acquire: Sidy Cissoko, 2 Future Seconds
Although Jonas was playing well for the Wizards, they are in rebuilding mode, and an aging vet like this does not provide them with much. They get decent draft capital for him while the Kings continue to try and compete.
Trade 9
Mavericks Acquire: Caleb Martin
76ers Acquire: Quentin Grimes, 2025 Second
This trade makes no sense for the Mavericks. Grimes is a good young player who was playing really well for your team, yet you trade him and a second for an older player who has much worse of a future than Grimes. This just does not make any sense to me.
Trade 10
Spurs Acquire: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin
Kings Acquire: Zach Lavine, Sidy Cissoko, 2025 First, 2027 First, 2031 First, 2025 Second, 2 2028 Seconds
Bulls Acquire: Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, Tre Jones, 2025 First
I honestly have no idea how the Spurs got away with this. They were able to get De’Aaron Fox without giving up any of their young players and barely any picks. The Kings did not do great in this. Yes, Zach Lavine is a solid player, but for Fox they should have been able to get more. The Bulls, though, I think did the worst. They gave a guy up like Lavin and could only get 1 pick. As a rebuilding team, they should have looked to get more draft capital. The Spurs are definitely looking scary after this trade.
Trade 11
Lakers Acquire: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris
Mavericks Acquire: Anthony Davis, Max Christie, 2029 First
Utah Jazz Acquire: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2 2025 Seconds,
This trade still amazes me. The Mavericks have arguably one of the best players in the NBA, one of the greatest 25-year old players of all time, someone that just carried your team to the NBA Finals, and you give him away for an aging star? That makes absolutely no sense. Anthony Davis is definitely a solid player, but for Luka? Seriously? And the Mavericks could only get 1 first rounder for Luka, a generational talent!? The Knicks gave up 5 first round picks for Mikal Bridges!! This trade is still insane to me, as the Lakers now have a bright future ahead of them.
