Back in November, I made my mid-season predictions as to what players I thought would win each NFL Award. Well, the season is over, and the NFL Honors ceremony has concluded. So, I will be recapping all of the awards, comparing my predictions to what happened, and seeing how well I did.
MVP
My Prediction: Lamar Jackson
Actual Result: Josh Allen
This one makes no sense to me. Lamar Jackson had better stats in every single category, yet Josh Allen took home the MVP. The biggest argument is that Josh Allen was more impactful to his team as Lamar had a better squad around him. But still, Lamar Jackson simply played better than Allen throughout the whole season. I stick by my prediction and think Lamar should have won it. I was shocked when I heard Allen’s name get called.
OPOY
My Prediction: Derrick Henry
Actual Result: Saquon Barkley
This one makes perfect sense. At the time I predicted Henry as he had more rushing yards and touchdowns. Then Barkley went insane and rushed for over 2,000 yards. This was the right pick here, a clear winner.
DPOY
My Prediction: Trey Hendrickson
Actual Result: Patrick Surtain
This award could have gone either way. I picked Hendrickson as he had the most sacks, and over the years that has typically been the formula for winning this award. But Surtain was also a great candidate. He is widely regarded as the best cornerback in the league and led a great Broncos defense to the playoffs.
OROY
My Prediction: Jayden Daniels
Actual Result: Jayden Daniels
Finally, I got one right. This one was pretty obvious. Especially after this playoff run, Jayden Daniels will be widely regarded as one of the best rookies in NFL history. He led this surprise Commanders’ team to the NFC Championship game and played a major role in getting them there. This selection was the right choice.
DROY
My Prediction: Jared Verse
Actual Result: Jared Verse
I must know a thing or two about rookies because both of my rookie-of-the-year picks were correct. Another fairly obvious one, Verse had a great season and played a major role in this stingy Rams defense. His efforts led this team to the divisional round, and he had a great game against the Eagles despite losing. Overall, a good selection and well-deserved
CPOY
My Prediction: Kirk Cousins
Actual Result: Joe Burrow
Kirk Cousins at the time I made this video was playing great, even outplaying Joe Burrow. Then, the wheels started to fall off and he got benched. Joe Burrow had an amazing season. He threw for 4,918 and 43 touchdowns. The fact this team did not make the playoffs with those quarterback stats is mind-boggling. This selection was indeed the right one, and well deserved from Burrow. Hopefully, we can see him perform in the playoffs next season.
COY
My Prediction: Dan Campbell
Actual Result: Kevin O’Connell
I simply predicted Campbell as the Lions were performing well, and he was a big reason for that. The O’Connell selection surprised me a little bit, as I thought there were better candidates for the award, such as the Commanders’ head coach Dan Quinn.
So I went 2 for 7, not good. However, I feel the people selected for each award deserved it (besides MVP, Lamar got snubbed). Overall, this season had some great performances by some great players, and I can’t wait to see what next season has in store.
