Welcome to the Underrated Gems, a brand-new review series for underrated games. These games would be considered not that well known in the mainstream media, hidden gems, and most importantly: just Underrated. All these games will be reviewed on my Steam account unless otherwise stated. This week, it’s time for the finale, but it won’t be something like guns blazing, but rather a possible retirement option after everything that was reviewed.
So it comes down to this. Weeks of discussing games that feature roguelikes, FPSs, and puzzles. Most of which have a certain factor of rage-inducing torture if you aren’t skilled enough to play. Yet this last review comes from a one-man developer in Mister-Morris Games. Releasing on Steam on February 2nd, 2024, a game with no lore implications, or a well-expanded plot. All you do in this game is just one simple task…farm. And you don’t even need to do that.
Gameplay
The premise is very simple. It’s a cozy, relaxing game that features a character named Rusty…farming. I know, truly a genius concept. But there’s a bit more to that than you expect. First off, the game doesn’t necessarily take place on a full screen, rather it’s like an expanded taskbar that you can have on your desktop. So after an intense session of either studying, playing, or doing work on your computer, you can simply watch Rusty farm away, giving you a much-needed rest.
Of course, you’ll be required to help out. There’s a supply section where you can help plant crops for Rusty, so they are able to farm it and collect money. Rinse and repeat to unlock new crops. Also obtaining biofuel in order to build new robots, get houses, and to sell even more to help out Rusty. Expansion can take a while, but just leave the game AFK for at least three hours, replant crops, and congrats Rusty will be a millionaire. All it truly is at the core of its surface is a simple game. But one full of just relaxation. Listening to the calming music, helping out Rusty, and expanding more than Great Britain ever could, if you just want to kick back and relax then this is the game for you.
Finale
Overall, well like I said the game is exactly what it sets out to be. But besides that, this will be the end of my Underrated Rating Review columns(maybe a better name is needed?) What I set out to do was to just show off games on Steam that aren’t your typical triple AAA games, or at the very least games that aren’t recognized by a lot of people. Even with other things like College Football ending, this series was made in order to showcase the hidden gems. There are definitely more games out there that deserve attention, but these games to me feel like the diamonds in the rough. I’d like to thank you very much for experiencing these games, and hopefully playing them on your own. As for the next series, you shouldn’t ask the simple question: What? Instead, you should probably ask…How?
