As many of you probably have seen on ik Tok or on your Instagram page is news about the viral avian (bird) flu. There is a lot the public does not know about this virus. One student said they know “nothing.” Another said “I don’t even know what the bird flu is.” According to CNN, some believe this sickness will be the next Covid-19—or 25. However, this is untrue.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) writes that the bird flu is transferred from birds to birds and from animals to animals. The other way it is transmitted is from animals to humans. The Cleveland Clinic has found that there is none to extremely rare human to human transmission, as there was seen during the Covid-19 global pandemic. Even the cases that were transmitted between humans were not in the United States. The vast majority of the cases have only been from infected animals to humans. In fact, there has only been 1 death from this illness in the United States so far.
To ease worries, no, this will not be Covid-25. But for the near future, or ever, do not hang out with wild animals.
