Welp, if you thought the first weekend for playoff games was quite the dud, the second week did deliver some better matchups. Even if some of them were still blowouts, we did get some biases destroyed throughout. All bye teams ended up having one thing in common, however: They would immediately go bye after this week had concluded.
New Year’s Eve Massacre: #6 Penn State Fully Stops the Ashton Jeanty Train and Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl: 31-14
They really couldn’t even give him the record huh? Well then, in the Fiesta Bowl where both teams were undefeated until this point, the Nittany Lions completely stopped whatever attempt of an upset the Broncos had. The offense kept managing to score, while the defense stopped Ashton and the running game. Yet even if the Broncos could not accomplish much, being a third seed as well as having possibly one of the best running backs in CFB’s history is a major accomplishment for Boise State. And with them heading to the Pac-12 in a couple of years, there’s a chance they could be starting up something incredible in the Pacific Coast.
For the Nittany Lions, well a NY6 Bowl win and getting closer to the playoffs is all they can keep asking for. As for their next opponent?
A Battle Between the Two Biggest, Insufferable Fanbases! #7 Notre Dame creams #2 Georgia at the Sugar Bowl: 23-10
Georgia…all I can say is just: Wow. Yes, they did have a backup QB starting, but people had already thought of it as an upgrade. Parker Jones is probably going to have to go to witness protection for ESPN’s “exclusive” coverage for all the times his lowlights were shown. Overall, the Bulldogs went out sad, just like putting a pet out of their misery on their last day…what a shame.
Another Insufferable Matchup For the Chance to Go to The Championship?! #7 Notre Dame vs #6 Penn State in the Orange Bowl
All of the College Football world moans and groans at this matchup. Another matchup for two teams, in which the fan bases are some of the…interesting ones? With at least the Irish or the Lions going to the championship? We really are in the end times.
Wait, Hold Up, An Actual Good Game In This Economy!? #5 Texas Edges Out #4 Arizona State in the Peach Bowl: 39-31(2OT)
We have to give the Sun Devils credit. For all the bye teams immediately going bye afterward, they were the ones wanting to prove they belonged. Managing a comeback, and putting a great Longhorns team to double overtime, Cam Skattebo going nuclear after throwing up, you can’t ask for more for an upstart team. Just gotta wonder why you throw an all-out blitz at 4th and 15 in 1st overtime…
For the Longhorns, Quinn Ewers, and especially the kicker managed another hard-fought victory against a team that had the Pac-12 by its side. The good news is they kind of get a home matchup in their next bowl game. The bad news?
Is Ryan Day No Longer A Fraud? Seems to be, as #8 Ohio State STEAMROLLS #1 Oregon at the Rose Bowl: 41-21
Lol. Just LolDucks. Also Ryan Day, now you use your possible WR1 in the 2027 draft in Jeremiah Smith when you could have used him so much more?! At least you managed to win…
A Showdown in Texas…again. #8 Ohio State Duels #5 Texas In Their Own Backyard at the Cotton Bowl
Well Texas, this is one of the hardest matchups you’ll have this year. They technically get home-field advantage, due to playing at Jerry’s World, but now have to take on a demolishing Buckeye squad. Truly another interesting, and even another insufferable matchup between these two juggernauts.
