This recap will cover all the bowl games between Friday, December 27th to…Saturday, December 28th. Yeah, there’s a total of thirteen bowl games that have happened between these two days. From the battle of CFB’s underdogs to another rivalry in the making, these bowl games still did not disappoint at any level.
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl: Navy beats Oklahoma: 21-20
Wait, did you seriously expect Oklahoma to beat the service academy known as Navy, in a bowl game named after the Armed Forces of this great country? They never stood a chance, and it was proven when the Navy had that 96-yard TD from their QB, and Oklahoma failed a two-point conversion at the end.
Birmingham Bowl: Vanderbilt beats Georgia Tech: 35-27
In this battle of the top underdogs in the country, Georgia Tech was favored immensely. Obviously, this means Vanderbilt would win, as Diego Pavia did whatever he wanted to this Georgia Tech defense. Now, he definitely owns the state of Alabama, wins against Alabama themselves, and a bowl win in Birmingham.
Autozone Liberty Bowl: Arkansas beats Texas Tech: 39-26
In the first half, it was a tale of two quarters. Arkansas is is taking over the 1st Quarter, and Texas Tech is the second. Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, the Razorbacks fully dominated the second half of the backs of Tylan Green, Matthew Shipley, and two team safeties?!
DirecTV Holiday Bowl: #21 Syracuse beats Washington State: 52-35
This definitely has to be Kyle McCord’s greatest year ever. Ending with a bowl win, seeing his old team Ohio State lose to Michigan, and establishing himself as at least a possible top-10 QB next year. The Pac-12 Curse is Strong, but not enough to take down the new swagger Syracuse has.
SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl: USC beats Texas Tech: 35-31
USC ended the season the way they started: Beating an SEC team that both ended 8-4, won on TD with 8 seconds left, and played in Las Vegas. Unfortunately for them, the regular season was somewhat of a wash, but the same can be said for the Aggies.
Wasabi Fenway Bowl: Uconn beats North Carolina: 27-14
In this bowl game, we saw two teams primarily known for basketball play a football game, at a baseball stadium. Well Bill Belichick, you definitely have your work cut out for you. We’ve seen college head coaches succeed and (mostly) fail in the NFL, but what about from NFL to College?
Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl: Nebraska beats Boston College: 20-15
Dylan Riaola may definitely be a culture changer for the Huskies. Finally managing to get a record above .500, going to and winning a bowl game! Even after all the mistakes and one-point games blown, could he finally be the one to end the curse at Nebraska?
Isleta New Mexico Bowl: TCU beats Louisiana: 34-3
Like some other playoff college matchups, this game should have been an email. At least Sonny Dykes can at least have another chance at reviving the program to where they were?
Pop-Tarts Bowl: #18 Iowa State beats #13 Miami: 42-41
The only bowl game that was worth something for a lot of people, outside of the traditional playoff games. Hey here’s a joke: What do the Hurricanes and Pop-Tarts have in common? They both get toasted and in this case, the defense of the Hurricanes showed themselves to be nothing more than fraudulent. Now as for Cam Ward sitting out the second half to rest for the draft, it definitely will be controversial for multiple bowl games to come.
Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl: Miami (OH) beats Colorado State: 43-17
At least a Miami team would actually end up winning a bowl game this year, off the backs of Kevin Davis and Jordan Brunson scoring two TDs each. And, Snoop Dogg would prove to be a better commentator than another group in another bowl game…
Go Bowling Military Bowl: ECU beats NC State: 26-21
These two teams meet each other next year in their first matchup. After seeing another brawl on the field, and ECU standing tall as the underdogs, you would think this would spark the makings of another rivalry between the two Carolinas. Oh, how Bowl Season and its incredible power to make teams who normally never face, develop a blood feud at the end.
Valero Alamo Bowl: #17 BYU beats #23 Colorado: 36-14
“I mean you have to give it to Colorado. What Coach Prime was able to do over two seasons managed to bring a team from the dead, into a serious contender. Sheduer Sanders is a top QB prospect, Travis Hunter with his Heisman ability…as we see BYU score another touchdown…I mean, Colorado seriously surprised all of us this year with the resilience and determination these boys did. As we see BYU return a punt for a TD, we’ll definitely be this Buffs squad for years to come in December, and possibly January”
This was a summary of what the commenters were like throughout the game.
Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl: #22 Army beats LA Tech: 27-6
Unfortunately, the Marshall Thundering Herd was supposed to take on the Black Knights. However, due to everyone in the players and coaches practically leaving for the transfer portal, the LA Tech Bulldogs will have to replace them. Yet unluckily for the Bulldogs, the Army ended up running them over like they always had been ever since the beginning of the year.
