SPOILERS!!! Don’t read unless you want to know the events of the Episode.
The sixth episode of What If has arrived. This episode depicts 1872 America but with a twist, superheroes and villains live in this time period. The episode features Simu Liu as Shang Chi and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. The duo are cowboys tracking down a man called the Hood who has been kidnapping immigrants. The team along with a child named Kwai Jun-Fan voiced by Allen Deng climb into a ghost train and find the missing immigrants. Chang Chi finally faces his sister Xialing who has killed the hood. She however dies at the end at the hands of Kate Bishop.
This episode was great at depicting old Western Shows. The uneasiness of the missing immigrants made this episode memorable. The traditional Chinese fighting was a nice contrast to the Western American backdrop. The beginning was a bit slow but the episode picked up the pace and became thrilling. The ending was also a tearjerker and led to many more questions than answers. The Watcher intervenes again in this episode helping the young boy and the last scene looks to be setting up to the final two episodes.
The episode had highs and lows, this makes me confident in placing it at a 4/5 ☆’s.
The next episode is Episode 7 “What If… The Watcher Disappeared?”
