With the postseason in full swing, some take solace in the fact that the College Football Playoffs are underway. Unfortunately, the results of the first matchup weren’t as promised. Instead, to find the matches everyone had been looking for, we must head to the “consolation” bowl games. Where we see two teams who had never even met develop a blood feud over the 60+ minutes of play. These will just be simple recaps that tell the story of the game below a paragraph’s worth. This first recap will cover the Art of Sports LA Bowl, to the 68 Ventures Bowl, a total of 11 bowl games. Why does this marking point end off with? The total number of bowl games between the 27th and 28th is 13 after 68 Ventures…
Art of Sport LA Bowl: #24 UNLV beats Cal: 24-13
Gotta give it to UNLV. Made it to the Mountain West Championship, almost as close to the CFB playoffs, has a future at QB when their main one left, and to top it all off: A Bowl Win! For Cal…yeah welcome to the ACC.
Boca Raton Bowl: JMU beats Western Kentucky: 27-17
JMU finally gets their first bowl win in the FBS, within their second season nonetheless. WKU, yeah Big Red just didn’t show up this time
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Sam Houston beats Georgia Southern: 31-26
And another team called up and achieved another bowl win in their second season in Sam Houston? The future definitely is looking bright for the Bearkats, ever since only winning one game last season…
StaffDNA Cure Bowl: Ohio beats Jax State: 30-27
I said it once, and I’ll say it again: Lisan Al Gaib!
Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl: Florida beats Tulane: 33-8
We saw a 400-pound plus Defensive lineman in Desmond Watson run the ball to convert a 1st Down in a beating. That’s all that needs to be said in this game, also worth mentioning that Florida definitely has a future with Lagway in sight.
Myrtle Beach Bowl: UTSA beats Coastal Carolina: 44-15
Imagine getting to play in a bowl game, but that bowl game was in your own stadium, and you proceeded to get demolished by 39 points. Sorry Coastal Carolina, it had to be you for the first time.
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: NIU beats Fresno State: 28-20(2OT)
This win solidifies NIU having one of the best non-playoff Group of 5 school seasons of all time. Getting a bowl win, as well as upsetting #5 Notre Dame at the beginning of the season, is truly a season to remember for the Huskies.
Hawai’i Bowl: South Florida beats San Jose State: 41-39(5OT!)
On Christmas Eve, where there was no other game in sight, Santa Claus blessed us all, with an early evening gift. With a game in Hawaii, where the Bulls took care of business against the Spartans, lasting to over five overtime, truly a sickos sight.
Game Above Sports Bowl: Tulane beats Pitt: 48-46(6OT!!!)
Ah yes, traditional Anti-AFC North Football between the Steelers and Bengals. Fights popping off, helmets getting yoked, turnovers galore, and shades of Antonio Brown celebrating on that one MNF game. And to top it all off, a six-overtime matchup to have Toledo finally beat Pitt…after storming the field twice before that.
Rate Bowl: Kansas State beats Rutgers: 44-41
Remember when these teams were considered dark horses for the playoff hunt? Damm…that one actually hurt. Also, Rutgers surrendering a 17-point lead and a 12-point lead in the second half alone is damming. At least Rutgers has a future in the backfield.
68 Ventures Bowl: Arkansas State beats Bowling Green: 38-31
From the highlights, you’d think that with the star players Bowling Green had, they’d easily beat down the Red Wolves. The Falcons had more yards, 1st downs, and better time of possession, but didn’t have the grit in order to close this game out.
