After another disappointing season, the Giants finally cut ties with their first-round QB, Daniel Jones. As a Giants fan, I am glad to see him go. GOODBYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE!
Most of Daniel Jones’ career as a Giant was disappointing. Especially this season, with a measly stat line of 2,070 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. His Giants career was highlighted by his 2022 season where the Giants won a playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. Despite this feat, he was awful. Definitely NOT worth the 6th overall pick.
At the time, I honestly didn’t think the Daniel Jones contract that Joe Schoen gave him was all that bad. I would have liked it to be $30 million a year as opposed to $40 million, but I felt that this playoff win would kind of jump-start his career and lead him on the right track. Well, this did not happen, and now he is gone. His career will be remembered as the guy the Giants paid over Saquon, who is now tearing up the league.
Personally, I’m ready for a fresh start. There are a couple of nice quarterback prospects in this year’s draft who I think would be nice to the Giants. A fresh start is what we need to reinstate this franchise as a heavy hitter in the NFL.
Financially, this is also better for the Giants. Although we still owe him $11.7 million this season and are acquiring $22.2 million in dead money, we are freeing up $19.4 million in cap space next season. Again, this fresh start and fresh money are what we need.
As far as the rest of the season goes, I honestly don’t really care anymore. I have no motivation to watch this team stink it up every week, and I’m really looking forward to the draft. Hopefully, we keep losing so we can lock up Cam Ward.
Well, it looks like this is goodbye. Daniel Jones got picked up to the Vikings Practice Squad where he will make a little over $100,000 until he is called up to the team. I guess I wish good luck to Jones and the rest of his career. However, I really don’t see him ever getting back to a starting position. Unless of course, injuries happen and he is forced to step in.
