Freehold Township High School takes pride in its field hockey team. In the 2023 season, Coach Erica Thomas led the team to a 10-8 winning season, moving the team into a higher division for the 2024 season. With this promotion came bigger challenges against tougher competition.
The 2024 team responded with grit and heart, finishing their season with a record of 3-11-2. After a tough start to the season with a seven-game losing streak, the team came together with a great 3-2 win over Colts Neck in overtime. Even though Colts Neck got the first goal of the game, Township still fought til the very end with the last play of the game being the game-winning stroke scored by Gianna Rivera.
The team’s next game was a 2-2 tie against Jackson Memorial. To close out the season, the last game ended in a victory with a score of 1-0 over Middletown North. Athletes on the team worked hard throughout the summer at the optional practices held three days a week and pre-season practices, and the team’s record doesn’t do justice to how hard all the girls worked throughout the season. Each game was a battle and they pushed themselves to the very end. Next season will bring new challenges and a new schedule, and this promising squad will continue to grow and develop to find the success that they are uber capable of achieving!
