Greetings, and welcome back to October Horror Fest! Today, I decided to watch one of the inevitable ones. This movie, and the franchise it has spawned, has become one of the most popular horror franchises in recent history, with its third installment BLOWING UP right now. It’s gory, bloody, and of course, terrifying. Try not to scream and hold onto your hats, as we enter into the world of Art the Clown. Without further ado, sit back, relax, turn off the lights, grab some Candy and Popcorn, and let’s review…
Terrifier
Our film starts with a staticy T.V. interview. However, what we are able to make out is a horribly disfigured woman talking to a news reporter. The woman is the sole survivor of a massacre that took place exactly a year before the interview took place. The interviewer asks the woman about the massacre, and the killer, only known as Art the Clown. The woman insists he is dead, as we see this same man putting on a clown costume, still watching the T.V. Our opening credits fly by, as we see the reporter in her room after the interview. She talks on the phone, as we hear noises coming from behind her. I know the reputation of this franchise, and immediately thought it would be a first kill from Art. I was right and wrong at the same time. The disfigured woman pops out, and attacks the reporter, gouging her eyes out in our first bloody kill of the movie…
We cut to the Halloween of 2017, where we see two friends, Tara and Dawn. They are all dressed up for Halloween, and are OBVIOUSLY drunk, Dawn more than Tara. As they walk down the street, Art the Clown appears, holding his bag of tools over his shoulder. Tara finds it unsettling, but Dawn doesn’t really mind at all. The two friends keep walking, and make it to a small restaurant in town. Inside the restaurant, Art is there, making faces at Tara. Dawn, being drunk and just honestly finding the clown silly, wants to get a picture with him. Art is frustrated, but does not speak. He only acts with his face, and with his movements. He goes over to Tara, and goofily proposes to her with a ring from a gumball machine. Art walks to the bathroom, and is immediately kicked out of the restaurant.
Tara and Dawn leave shortly after, as Dawn continues joking about Art. Tara, however, is seriously concerned. The two get into Dawn’s car, but discover that the tires are slashed. Dawn is pretty upset, but she is drunk, so she could care less. Tara calls her sister Victoria to pick them up. Tara thinks that Art was the one that slashed the tires. But, little does she know, he is doing so much worse.
At the restaurant, Art re-enters, and stabs one of the two employees to death. It. Is. Brutal. His face is nonexistent at the end, blood being smeared literally everywhere. The owner re-enters the restaurant, and Art spares no expense, decapitating him. Guys, this movie is so bloody. While waiting for Victoria to show up, Tara decides to enter a creepy building, asking a pest control employee Mike to let her in. He begrudgingly obliges, and Tara heads into the absolutely creepy building to find the bathroom. While Tara is in the bathroom, Dawn listens to the radio, where Art’s crimes are being reported. She freaks out, and doesn’t notice when Art enters the car, smiling while he is absolutely covered in blood. We cut away with Dawn screaming.
While trying to find her way out of the building, Tara encounters the homeless lady. We literally don’t know her name, but she is very important. She carries a doll which she literally believes is her child, and acts very nice but very creepy to Tara. Tara runs away, but Art is there. As Tara begins to hide, Art walks around each and every car in the parking garage where she is hiding. It’s intense. Tara begins to run, but Art finds her, and pins her to the ground. The two begin to struggle, as Tara stabs Art in the arm with a scalpel she found. She isn’t going down without a fight! Tara keeps running through the building, where she finds Mike. However, our man is locked in, headphones in as he cleans the building. Tara screams for him, until Art pulls her aside and hits her with a sedative. She’s out.
Tara wakes up, and the most gut wrenching, horrific, gory, bloody, I don’t even have the words to describe this scene, begins. Tara is bound to a chair, and Art threatens her with all the tools he has in his bag. However, he’s had enough of playing with her. Art walks in front of him to a curtain, and pulls it down, revealing the naked Dawn hung upside down. Both girls scream, as Art smiles horrifically. Tara can do nothing as Art begins to saw Dawn down vertically. It’s so bad. Tara runs, and hides. Art chases, but Tara is able to give him the slip just long enough to hit him with a 2×4. She hits him over and over and over, until Art PULLS OUT A GUN and shoots Tara, causing her to collapse to the floor. NO!!! And yes, this Masked Killer, unlike Micheal Myers, carries a gun. Art leaves to find more ammo, and comes back to our girl, shooting her multiple times in the head. Yeah. But wait, who is our final girl?
We cut upstairs, where the homeless lady spots Art and goes to alert Mike. Mike believes nothing she is saying, because of course. Mike heads downstairs, and in some comedic timing only a clown can pull off, Art immediately hits Mike over the head with a hammer, dropping him. The homeless lady runs to find her doll, as VICTORIA finally arrives.
Victoria tries to enter the building, as we cut to one of the most messed up scenes in the film, and that’s saying a lot considering the movie I’m writing about right now. Art is cradling the doll in his hands in a random hallway, as the homeless lady comes closer to him. She begs for her “daughter” back, but Art refuses. However, the homeless lady says that Art has never had a mother. She then BEGINS TO CRADLE ART, as he sucks on his thumb. WHATTTTTTTT
Victoria finally gets into the building, as she sees Dawn’s body. She screams, but continues looking around. Victoria runs, until she finds the body of the cat lady. ART HAS DECIMATED HER. He walks around wearing her skin on his body. Oh my god. Art begins to chase her, as one of the workers of Mike’s company appears. Art won’t let this slide, and horrifically kills and decapitates him. Victoria finds her sister’s body as she is running, and breaks down in front of it, beginning to break down. Art appears, and creeps closer to Victoria. However, MIKE appears. He’s still alive, and knocks out Art. The duo bolt, and find their way into a barricaded room upstairs. Mike calls the cops, as Victoria begins shaking and crying and still basically losing her mind.
However, just when things are okay, Art appears. He annihilates Mike, but Victoria is able to escape into the garage, only a few feet away from the exit. She begins to calm down, but a pick up truck hits the headlights right in front of her. It’s Art. He speeds towards Victoria, and hits her. Art kneels down, and begins to eat Victoria’s face. However, the cops arrive, and Art shoots himself in the head…
The police discover Victoria, still breathing, and rush her to hospital. However, it isn’t done yet. Art’s body is taken to the morgue, where the lights start flickering. Art wakes up, bursting through the bag, and kills the examiner. Yeah. We cut to one year later. Victoria is being wheeled around, and is dismissed from hospital care. She turns around, and SHE is the disfigured woman from the beginning. This shock fuels the end, as we fade to black…
THANK YOU ALL FOR READING! This film is BLOODY. I’ve heard from several of you all that the other movies in this trilogy are better than the first, so hold onto your hats. Thank you all for reading once again! And always, ALWAYS, beware the clown…
