As many of you know, Freehold Township High School takes a lot of pride in their girls soccer team. The team is coming off of a strong season with a 20-3 record and being state champions. Everyone was wondering the same thing: What does the future hold for this team. With eight seniors graduating, there were many big shoes to fill.
After working hard all summer, the girl had a very promising start. However, with a shocking 0-4 start to the season, many questioned the future of the program. With their 0-4 start against four very strong teams, the team had made it into overtime three separate times falling just short of a win. While many doubted their abilities, these girls didn’t count themselves out. The Patriots had a very strong 8-0 win against Brick Township which got the ball rolling. But they weren’t done yet. The team continues to show the shore just what kind of legacy they planned on leaving, twelve of these players being seniors. After their early season rut, the team finished 7-6.
During the postseason, the girls will fight their way through the Shore Conference and again through States. This team has so much ambition to win it all and honestly, they definitely have what it takes to be #1. With the team’s 9-0 win over Matawan during the first round of the Sore Conference, it is obvious that they are hungry to win it all. While many worried about their game against Toms River South during round 2, the team and Coach Patterson knew they had what it takes. The team went on to win 2-1 with goals from captains Dani Howard and Sophie Tonino.
This Monday, 10/20 at 3 pm the girls will face off against Middletown South in the quarter-finals. This is the team that knocked the Patriots out of the Shore Conference during the quarter-finals last year. However, these girls definitely have what it takes to defeat the eagles and make it all the way.
