Seasons greetings everyone, and welcome back to Snowfest! Now, we are officially two weeks into the challenge, WOOOO!!!! Today is also December 15th, which marks (approximately) the halfway point of the challenge. I’m doing really well with this challenge, and I hope you all are enjoying reading through it. Without further ado, let’s go through Week Two of Snowfest!
Day 9 – Christmas with Walt Disney
I’m a Disney guy, this had to be in here somewhere! While scrolling through Disney+ on the 9th, I stumbled across a documentary entitled “Christmas with Walt Disney”. In this film, it showed classic clips of Walt Disney, and how he used to talk to his audiences from the 50s and 60s about Christmas.
I really enjoyed this, and loved seeing the visage of Walt, although he is long gone. This documentary was incredible, and is very high up on my list!
Day 10 – Frosty the Snowman
Everyone reading now knows this classic tale, and has seen this absolute Christmas Classic. Of course, Frosty the Snowman is a special that needs no introduction. It is incredible, heartwarming, unique, and most importantly, special.
Everyone has their own memories with Frosty. He represents Christmas and the Holidays when we were younger, and he continues to have that reputation today. Frosty is an amazing character from an amazing movie, and he truly represents Christmas. Only here for a little while, but truly amazing when he is.
Day 11 – Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Two back to back classics! Rudolph, even more than Frosty, holds a special place in my heart. When Rudolph was created, he helped to bring magic to the Christmas holiday, and to celebrate something truly special.
Rudolph is my favorite Christmas special for a reason, and it shows. Rudolph taught us all lessons when we were younger, and those still stick with us today. No matter how different we may be, we can still succeed.
Day 12 – Elf
It’s 99% of people’s favorite Christmas movie! That’s right, it’s Elf, and I was not disappointed watching this classic once again. The entire film is shaped around the joy, laughs, and innocence of Christmas, and how they all relate to bring us the amazing holiday. Buddy is different from everyone else, yet he still strives for greatness and even gets it, after finally proving himself.
Elf, outside of all its laughs, is a truly terrific film. It encapsulates the joy of Christmas in its purest form, and will be remembered as a classic for years to come.
Day 13 – The Polar Express
If there’s a Christmas movie that I can name without a shadow of a doubt that we all grew up on, it’s this one. The Polar Express is an absolutely classic and amazing animated film, and truly shows the audience what the holidays mean.
Through our completely unnamed cast of characters, we find what the Holidays mean from a more anonymous perspective. From gaining a bell, to finally understanding where the Polar express goes, this is a film that stood and will continue to stand the test of time.
Day 14 – A Christmas Carol (1984)
Although there have been hundreds of versions of this great story by the amazing Dickens, this adaptation has always stood out to me. A Christmas Carol from 1984 is especially heartwarming, and gets the themes from the story on to the screen so well.
Through Scrooge, we learn as he learns about Christmas. Scrooge represents all when we lose that magic in our hearts. However, when Scrooge finally realizes his mistakes, we feel that joy.
Day 15 – Crisis at Christmas HQ (Short Film)
Another short film, and this one was great! This film, funnily enough, centered around Santa telling his elves a story about how he was the man who turned the Grinch into the man who hates Christmas. This is a very funny short film, and steps up the plot points really well.
Although it did not delve deep on the moral understanding of the holiday (obviously), seeing the Grinch was honestly just awesome, and I had a great time watching.
I hope you all had an amazing 15 days of December, and I hope you are Snowfest. Don’t turn that dial, dear reader, as 15 more days lie ahead. Before I go, may your days be Merry and Bright!
