The Successful DECA Food Drive

Emily Landolfi, Staff Writer

Our very own DECA organization here at FTHS conducted a widely successful community outreach foodrive, collecting over 500 items for the Samaritan Center.

What is DECA? It stands for the Distributive Education Clubs of America, an around the globe organization created with the purpose to prepare future leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA is present in both high schools and colleges, readying students to be academically prepared, responsible, experienced, and community-oriented leaders.

The FTHS DECA 2021-2022 executive board is to thank for the prosperous drive: Alexander M. as President, Ashley M. as Vice President, Bryant Bove as Secretary, and Paige Klings as the Public Relations Officer. These individuals have been working exceedingly hard, dedicating their time to the club to ensure the success of their fundraisers, evident through this food drive. Ashley spoke about the feeling of fulfillment and excitement “to see each morning the bin full with cans and boxes to help those in need,” emphasizing one of the core purposes of the club being to benefit the community.

Their work isn’t stopping here. Ashley explained the overarching upcoming goal for the club, stating, “We are currently exploring other ways to assist the community, in addition to fundraising for our club.”

As previously mentioned, DECA is fitted for students with an interest in finance and business. Like all the other FTHS clubs, bonds and friendships are also formed through this organization. Ashley speaked on her experience as a member, elaborating, “It has been so beneficial to be a part of DECA. I’ve learned so much about many aspects of business and I have met some close friends, too.”

Congratulations to DECA for their major food drive success, and stay on the lookout for future fundraisers to support the club and our community!
