Making Against Strides Breast Cancer Walk
October 27, 2021
On Sunday, October 16th, thousands of people were at Point Pleasant Beach—but not because it’s beach season. Instead, everyone was there to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk! Over 12,500 walkers came out to save lives and fight against breast cancer, and a whopping $800,000 was raised—incredible!
For over two decades, the American Cancer Society has led the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk to unite communities while fighting against this disease. There are several walks held all around the country—from Santa Monica, California and Miami-Dade, Florida all the way to our very own Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
Participants ranged in all ages, and volunteers from local high schools supported the event by handing out water during the walk. Local businesses and sponsors, including Stop & Shop and Walmart, distributed snacks and other swag for all participants to enjoy. AJH entertainment came out to DJ the event, with upbeat music to pump everyone up in the early morning hours.
The event was a huge success. The funds are imperative to help with research and support for breast cancer. In the United States, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Men can get breast cancer too, although it is rarer than women. Finally, a more positive statistic: in the United States, there are over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors. With a huge donation to the American Cancer Society, the 2021 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was an amazing and impactful event. And their trademark saying is so empowering: “What unites us, ignites us!”
