2021 Oscar Nominations
March 17, 2021
The time has come; the nominations for the 93rd Oscar Awards have been announced! It’s truly an exciting day for movie fans. The Best Picture nominees are as follows: Sound of Metal, Mank, Minari, Promising Young Woman, The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Nomadland. Of the nominees, the frontrunner seems to be Mank receiving ten nominations!
In a historical feat, two women are nominated for best director for the first time ever. Chloé Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Women became the first two women ever at the Academy Awards to both occupy the Best Director category. This comes after years of women being snubbed by the Academy with only one woman ever winning Best Director (Katheryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker). This is certainly a step in the right direction for the Academy, but still more needs to be done.
More updates are to come as the awards approach. The Oscar Award ceremony is taking place this year on Sunday April 25th at 8:00 pm eastern time on ABC. Below is a list of the Best Picture Nominees currently available for streaming. Any films not included are only available for purchase or are not streaming yet.
-Sound of Metal: Amazon Prime

-Mank: Netflix
-The Trial of the Chicago 7: Netflix
