New Peer Leaders Gear Up for Next Year

Searching for reliable role models with superb leadership qualities and the ability to make school a fun experience? Look no further than the 2015-2016 Freehold Township Peer Leaders!

“I wanted to become a peer leader because I feel like it is a great way to interact and become closer with your classmates and teach underclassmen about good decision making,” says newly appointed peer leader, junior Kayla Lew. “I consider myself a very outgoing person and I’m looking forward to all the program has to offer.”

Aside from housing the most enthusiastic students at FTHS, the peer leadership program works to develop both communication and problem solving skills with easy, fun activities that help underclassmen open up to their peers and become more comfortable with high school.

“I’m excited to talk to the freshman and sophomore students next year,” states new peer leader, junior Lindsey Lavelle. “I want to show them how to make the right decisions so they can enjoy their four years at FTHS.”

Along with a thorough application process with questions such as “What four items would you bring to a deserted island?” the students were invited to participate in a day of interviews. After playing various ice breakers, the students gave a short speech on why they feel they should be part of the program.

“I put a lot of work into my application and interview,” states Lew. “It makes me proud to see that all of that paid off.”

Another peer leader, junior Carine Fiumara, also commends herself for being accepted into the prestigious program.

“I’m very excited and grateful to be chosen to be a peer leader,” says Fiumara. “In my eyes, that means people look up to me.”

Congratulations to all of the new peer leaders! Let’s hope they continue to make Freehold Township an amazing place to be.
