“Happiness is a Butterfly”- Lana Del Rey

Coming straight off of her most recent album, Norman F*cking Rockwell, “Happiness is a Butterfly” epitomizes Lana Del Rey’s signature sound. A soft piano track plays as Del Rey belts her heart out about the perils of love. She sings heartfelt lyrics such as, “If he’s a serial killer, then what’s the worst; That can happen to a girl who’s already hurt?; I’m already hurt; If he’s as bad as they say, then I guess I’m cursed”. Del Rey’s breathy falsetto and gentle voice combined with the pain and struggles that she sings of create an overall lovely piece of music. You should listen to this tune if you like more mellow music, or songs with meaningful lyrics.
“Funky I Like It”- Babe Rainbow

The moment you listen to this track for the first time, you will immediately be transported to an era of tie-dye, bell-bottoms, and go-go boots. Babe Rainbow has been one of my favorite bands for a while now, most simply because of their ability to take you to the 1960s with their instrumentals. With background music that you can only categorize as “groovy,” “Funky I Like It” is sure to take you back to the time of hippie pants and flower crowns. Have I made my point clear enough yet? On top of the instrumentals in this song, the lead singer of the band has an amazing, melodic voice that you’ll surely fall in love with. Overall, you should listen to this song if you’re a fan of older music, or if you like music with long instrumental breaks.
“Tony Stark”- The Symposium

Just a warning for all of you Marvel fans out there- this song is not actually about Tony Stark. But, I guarantee you’ll still love it 3000! Okay, I’m sorry. Please don’t stop reading this article because of that joke. Anyways, if you’re still reading, The Symposium is a band known for their more mellow, psychedelic music. This sound is demonstrated very well in “Tony Stark” with the lead singer’s ever so slightly distorted vocals, and the “trippy” nature of the synthesized background vocals. The lyrics, although repetitive, add to the overall sound of the song and create a positive tone. You should listen to this song if you like more lo-fi music, or indie music.
“INTRO”- The Polar Boys

When I first heard this tune, I had very mixed feelings about it. The Polar Boys have always been known, at least to me, for making very beachy sounding pop music. But, after a few more listens, “INTRO” quickly became my next musical obsession. This genre defying tune shows how the band cannot be restricted to just one simple “pop” sound, as this song has hints of pop, rock, punk, and grunge music. Overall, you should listen to this track if you’re a fan of many genres, or a fan of strong male vocalists.
