Mrs. Price Named FTHS Teacher of the Year
January 20, 2015
Mrs. Price has been names teacher of the year for the 2014-15 school year! She is very thrilled about this honor, and she is beyond grateful.
What got you interested in teaching?
“I think I always knew that I wanted to teach English. When I was in high school my guidance counselor basically told me that I was going to wind up working at Macy’s, so that kind of discouraged me a little bit. But, after I had children I was inspired to go back to college to get my degree in teaching. I think when you have children you want to do what you want done for your own kids.”
What is your favorite thing about teaching high school students?
“My favorite thing is definitely the students, I learn so much from them and they are so interesting.”
How do you feel about winning teacher of the year?
“It was a big surprise. I honestly did not expect it. I don’t like a big fuss, really, but I do feel honored to be chosen. I do appreciate the honor.”
What do you enjoy most about teaching English?
“I believe literature connects to real life, and every student can find pieces of themselves in literature. Literature has meaning and depth; it’s not like reading through a newspaper. It provides real life messages.”
What do you like to do with your free time?
“I enjoy cooking, which also means I like eating; running; and gardening.”
Do you believe you learn something new from your students every day?
“Definitely, that’s what I like most about teaching teenagers, they have very interesting insights.”
Do you feel pressured now that you are claimed to be “teacher of the year”?
“Nah, the way I do things will never change, that’s what got me this honor. I feel good about the way I’m doing things now, I’m just to stick to the way things are.”
Mrs. Price also wanted to add: “It’s important for teachers to have a good sense of humor; you’ve got to be entertaining for your students.”
Mrs. Titus, Mrs. Price’s good friend, has a lot to say about her buddy.
Do you think Mrs. Price deserved teacher of the year?
“Oh absolutely! 100%. She is completely dedicated, she values education and her students, and she’s always available to them.”
What’s the best thing about her?
“She’s reliable, and she’s an incredible person and friend.”
Congrats Mrs. Price on Teacher of the year; you truly deserve it!
