How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions
January 6, 2015
Now that 2014 is over and 2015 is a fresh start, many people look to the change in the date as a perfect opportunity to make a change in their lives. Some people want to eat more healthily, exercise more, or work harder in school. But often, these goals and aspirations are forgotten as soon as January 3rd. It can be a struggle to switch even the smallest things in your life, so here is some advice to get you started in the New Year right.
STAY DEDICATED!
Any goal or change takes dedication in order to be accomplished. The Empire State Building wasn’t built in a day; it took dedication and hard work to be finished. The same can be said about your New Year’s resolution. Without dedication, a goal can’t be completed. Most of the time it is hard for people to stay dedicated to something because something else sidetracks them. Remind yourself of your goal! Focus on how your going to get to the finish line instead of what will happen when you get there.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS!
This is probably the best advice that could be given for any New Year’s resolution.
Often time’s people set unrealistic goals and end up being disappointed when they do not get the resolute they expected. For example, if you hate running and dread doing it, don’t make your New Year’s Resolution to complete a marathon, because that is just torturing yourself for an entire year. Make a resolution something you enjoy and would look forward to doing.
3. REMIND YOURSELF OF YOUR GOAL!
A year is a long time, even though it seems to slip by fast. If your goal is to exercise everyday, you have to remember 365 times to go to the gym. This could be hard for some people, so memorization is key. Leave notes around your house or in your car, or keep track of your progress over time so you can see what you have accomplished. If your goal is to exercise more, the health app of the iPhone is a great tool to track your fitness.
If you follow these 3 simple steps, your New Year’s resolution could be complete by 2016. Even though goals are hard to stick to, the feeling of having them realized is great. Best of luck to you and your endeavors in the 2015!
