Arrowverse 2017-2018: Episode 8 Crisis On Earth X – In Depth Analysis and Our Thoughts.
The Wedding
While I do protest the marriage of Felicity and Oliver due to the past three seasons of overall bad chemistry between the characters, I was glad that Barry and Iris finally got married. It was a long awaited moment and it will help the show progress forward now that we do not have to hear anymore about how they want to get married or their wedding plans.
That Character at the Wedding
Remember that strange young waiter who was talking to Barry at his wedding? Did you notice how she looked very similar to Iris West? She is actually from the future. The character that mysteriously visited the wedding was indeed their future daughter. Her name is Dawn Allen and she is a speedster just like Barry. Does this mean we can finally see her brother Don Allen and Impulse on screen? We will just have to wait and see!
Tommy Merlyn of Earth X
Tommy Merlyn. How do I even begin? If there’s any character from Arrow that I miss the most, it would have to be Tommy Merlyn. While he may be in the episode for only two minutes, it was so satisfying seeing him appear. It was a bittersweet appearance. Here’s hoping we will see him return again in the distant future.
The Freedom Fighters
Leonard Snart. That’s all you need to know in order to know that the Freedom Fighters was one of the greatest parts about the crossover. The more Wentworth Miller, the better. He always does a standout job and it’s impossible to not just get excited whenever the character steps in. The Ray was a nice, but underused addition to the lineup of heroes. It’s a shame we did not get to see more of him, but maybe in a future episode of Flash or Legends we will see him again. There is an animated series that’s a prequel starring The Ray early next year, so it’s entirely possible we could see him return.
Earth X Villains
Overgirl, Dark Arrow, and the unexpected Earth One Eobard Thawne, Reverse Flash, all teamed up in order to stop the heroes from defeating the Nazis of Earth X and preventing the invasion into their world. While Overgirl and Dark Arrow are dead, and Barry let Thawne get away once again in order to set the future and past on the right path. It’s likely we will see Thawne return on The Flash and possibly as part of the new Legion of Doom on Legends of Tomorrow.
Martin Stein
As actor Victor Garber departs from the Arrowverse, it’s time to say goodbye to beloved hero Firestorm. Martin Stein was forced to kill himself in order to save his companions life. It hit me hard seeing the character give up his own life in order to allow Jefferson to live. I did not think that Jefferson would actually give Stein the vile to drink. I had been expecting this moment to eventually come where the character would depart from the team, but I did not even think for a second that they would actually kill him off of Legends of Tomorrow. They were constantly showing how Ray was developing new ways for Martin and Jefferson to split from each other so he can go home to his wife, daughter, and grandson. Stein is one of the last original Legends to still be on the team. So far, the departed members are Leonard Snart, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and the former captain Rip Hunter. It’s entirely possible that Rip will return to the team later this season, but I do not think there is any chance of Stein returning for an episode unless if its a flashback or hallucination.
Snart Stays
While his stay may not be permanent as actor Wentworth Miller confirmed that he was set to leave the Arrowverse as of right now, we will certainly be seeing Earth X Snart appear on next week’s Legends of Tomorrow and possibly The Flash. It’s safe to assume that he will be headed back to Earth X, but for the time being, we should enjoy what we can get left from the actor’s performance. Snart will certainly be the most mourned character of the Arrowverse once the actor officially departs from the role.
The Effect On The Legends
Jefferson will certainly be affected as he can no longer form Firestorm by himself. Firestorm was the most powerful Legend. Its likely that without Firestorm, the team will encounter trouble when up against Mallus and the rest of the new Legion of Doom, but they always find a way to save the day, even when most of their team is out cold. If he does not find a way to recreate the firestorm matrix, then he might not be able to even survive on his own. I think it’s likely that the writers will retire this character as the show goes on. I can not see the show going on with just Jefferson. Having no Martin Stein is like having the butter without the bread. Martin Stein has always been and will be Firestorm. Jefferson is the team’s mechanic, but Ray Palmer can easily fit that position if they decide to pull the plug on the characters future. The Legends, as a whole, lost one of their most valuable members, but it should not affect them too bad in the long run. If they were able to mourn Snart and move on without him, then they can certainly do the same for Martin Stein.
John Diggle Cameo
This running gag never gets old. Seriously this has become a staple of the series. They need to do this every Flash and Arrow crossover.
Pedro’s Overview and Review
Welcome Flash Fix fans, to my review of DCTV Crossover event, Crisis on Earth X. I will be sharing the important highlights of each episode for this crossover. The event started with Supergirl, as everyone is preparing for Barry and Iris’ wedding. Everyone is enjoying the dinner rehearsal, but an awkward moment occurs as when Oliver tries to propose to Felicity privately since it’s Barry and Iris’ night. They argue for a while about what Felicity’s answer is going to be, but that answer came clear to everyone as she shouted “I DON’T WANT TO MARRY YOU OLIVER!” Cisco has created a drug for Professor Stein and Jefferson, once one of them takes the drug, they will no longer be Firestorm. Stein is very happy with the news, but Jefferson doesn’t seem very pleased with the news. Stein being the nice old man he is, he creates another drug for Jefferson which can still give him superpowers, but not as firestorm, as a person who can stick onto things-Jefferson is now even more upset. When you think your going to have a normal wedding, with all superheroes of DCTV in one church, you thought wrong; the wedding got interrupted by Nazis, and killed the priest! One thing our heroes noticed is that there’s a nazi Supergirl, and Arrow. A fight breaks loose, the civilians who attended the wedding were safely let out of the church, and the heroes shined brightly against evil forces of nazis. “Best wedding ever!!”-Mick Rory. Our group of heroes is able to capture the Earth X version of Prometheus, they got a lot of questions for him. From a distance, nazi Supergirl, and Arrow is met by nazi Flash, everyone reveals themselves-Flash is nazi Eobard Thawne (who’s wearing a Harrison Wells mask), Earth X Oliver is Arrow, and Earth X Kara is Supergirl!
To start off Arrow, Prometheus is disguised as Earth X Tommy Merlyn!! His return/cameo is brief as once he spoke to Earth 1 Oliver about the truth of where he comes from, and how Earth X Oliver is his true best friend, Merlyn takes a pill that kills him in front of his “best friend.” The gang are trying to find out where did these nazis come from, but Wells of Earth 2 mentions there is a 53rd Earth, it’s so terrible it cannot be mentioned-Earth X. The difference with Earth X is that the Nazis won the war, and Hitler reigned supreme till his death in 1994! Earth X trio captures a prism they need to turn Earth 1 to Earth X 2.0, but our trio are the first to respond. Earth X trio reveal themselves and our legion of heroes are flabbergasted. During the fight, the opposite Kara shoots her laser eyes at a work sight crane holding civilians in it. Of course our trio does their best to rescue the men working, and their opposites escape back to their base. During the fight, Olly shoots a kryptonite arrow at Supergirl from Earth X which has the blood of her. With the blood, the team of scientist are able to track the location of her base of operations. As the group of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, White Canary, Firestorm, and Danvers leave to invade their base, STAR Labs is introduced to Earth X Arrow! Fight breaks loose inside, Killer Frost, Rorey try fighting him off, and even with the help with the rest of team Arrow, Earth X Oliver stands tall! Fight turn to chaos in the base Earth X is hiding in, the heroes got lucky in defeating the nazis, but their luck had run out, as they’re met by a new boss fight in a cyborg robot. Our heroes were easily defeated by this android, and now they’re tied up. Arrow his wife, Supergirl, and Flash reveal their plans to perform surgery on Earth X Kara, because she needs a new heart to live, what a better doner as her doppelganger. The android shoots a laser at everyone, and the group wakes up in a prison in Earth X.
To continue Crisis on Earth X with an episode of the Flash, Earth X has captured Cisco, Caitlin, Wells, and the rest of team arrow and are currently holding them hostage in Cisco’s metahuman prison; where the metas being held cannot use their powers. STAR Labs is how under the control of Earth X, and is also the location for the surgery for Kara of Earth 1 to give her heart to Kara of Earth X. Our heroes that are being held in the Earth X prison is now introduced to the warden of the prison, Earth X Quentin Lance! Of course, Sara notices this change, and is overall devastated of what is the most dangerous Earth yet. Lance orders them to be lead out of the prison to meet their demises, and with them is a prisoner about to meet the same fate because he is gay. The team tries to defend themselves, but that plan ultimately fails as Lance presses a button on a remote that shocks the prisoners since they’re wearing shock collars. Lance, and the other guards are ready to kill the heroes, but lucky for them, they met the calvary, being Earth X Leonard Snart! Leo and the others fight off the nazis, and we learn that the other prisoner is a meta as well, with powers that include him transforming to a man of light! Another fact we learn about this new character is that his partner is Earth X Leo, and he is originally from Earth 1. Leo, and the new character, Ray takes our Earth 1 heroes to their base of operations where they have a plan to get them back home. The plan goes to dust as there is a large army of nazis guarding this portal to get the heroes back home, and the general, (Earth X version of Winn Schott), says they’re blowing up the portal! Back in Earth 1, it’s up Felicity and Iris to save Kara from losing her heart, and save the others-we’re all doom. Snart and Ray argue repeatily to Schott because his decision is usually final, but in this case, he grants them one hour to get Earth 1 heroes back home. Kara is now cooked by the red sun hovering her body, weakening her, and she is ready for surgery. She mentions to Flash that Superman is coming to rescue her, but Flash says he won’t because he’s fast, but not fast enough. As Flash is getting ready to get Kara cut open, the power to STAR Labs go out, surprisingly, the people responsible are Iris and Felicity. Flash goes on a searching spree, meanwhile, Iris and Felicity managed to rescue Supergirl. Their five minutes of fame gets cut short, as they are met by the robot android in the elevator, and they surrendered! Our heroes are able to make their way in the facility holding their one way ticket back home by having Oliver disguised as Earth X Oliver. Oliver is met by Lance who introduce the audience their doomsday plan, their own nazi Waverider! Lance also presents Oliver a present which is a prisoner, ready to be executed. This is no ordinary prisoner, this is Felicity Smoak of Earth X, arrested for being a jew, and spotted handing out rations to children! Oliver has to make a life or death decision here, even though this is not his true love, he still cannot pull the trigger. He turns to Lance, turns off the safety, pulls the trigger, but the gun is out of ammo! Oliver fights off the nazis and frees Felicity of Earth X. Plans go to worst as General Schott cuts them time, and launches his own doomsday, red tornado to destroy the portal! Back in Earth 1, General Oliver demands Felicity of Earth 1 to turn the power back on, or Flash will kill her, lucky for her, she’s saved by Kara, willing to give up her life for her friends. Fight for the portal takes place with the heroes fighting for their ticket back home. Flash and Ray attempt to fight off red tornado, but he is too powerful to be stopped. Flash ends with Stein attempting to turn on the portal power, but as he is two feet away from the switch, he is shot in the arteries, and goes down right in front of Jefferson!
Legends of Tomorrow kicks off with time winding down on red tornado’s arrival, and Stein dying. Somehow, Stein has the power and strength to crawl to the portal power switch and turn it on, but he gets shot again in the same place. Barry and Ray are able to destroy red tornado before it can reach the portal. Jefferson and Stein are able to merge as Firestorm to help keep Stein alive for a while. All of the heroes managed to escape hell known as Earth X, and make it back home for one more fight. With power back on at STAR Labs, Flash is able to cut open Kara’s heart, but the procedure fails again, because Atom has shrunken down and is able to fight off the blade! He then transforms to normal size to fight off nazis with the rest of the Legends! Together, they freed the STAR Labs crew, team Arrow, and Kara, until Arrow shoots an arrow on the Atom suit, and demands Kara’s heart. Felicity tries to act like a hero, but Earth X Arrow aims an arrow on her, but Earth 1 Arrow stops him saying he has Earth X Kara, and he will kill her. Meanwhile, the other heroes fight off the android robot, and use their awesome abilities to destroy the machine in a cool and colorful manner. Earth X Kara and Oliver are rescued by Earth X Flash, and they’re being taken back to Earth X for a short matter of time. The other Ray (Atom) is still alive after the arrow in his atom suit, Oliver and Felicity share a true love moment as they realize they don’t have to get married to show love with one another. As Stein is resting in the non nazi Waverider, Jefferson is now feeling the same effects of the gun wound as Stein since they feel the same emotion in being Firestorm. Stein is functioning with the help of Jefferson, but if Stein dies, he dies as well; the only way to save Jefferson for Stein to take Cisco’s drug, not letting them be Firestorm anymore! Stein persuades Jefferson to give him the drug since he is past his prime, and if Jefferson were to die, he will be missing out on everything since he’s young. Jefferson is finally convinced, and they share one last father and son moment, Stein takes the drug, and dies in front of a broken Jefferson. Jefferson travels to Stein’s home to break the news to his wife Clarissa, of course she becomes broken as well with Jefferson. Back at the Waverider, everyone is mourning the loss of a true hero and legend being Stein, but they receive a message from Earth X Oliver offering a piece treaty. They will go back home to Earth X if Supergirl comes with them; knowing Oliver of Earth 1, he never turns his back on his friends. He says no, and everyone has one more fight ahead of them against nazis! Earth X is already ahead of the fun and begin attack Earth 1, but here come our DCTV heroes to save the day and protect their Earth! Everyone and I mean everyone looks awesome using their powers/abilities against the nazis. Barry has the opportunity to kill his doppleganger, but he refuses to do so since he is one of the heroes who’s weak like a boy scout. The nazi waverider has been destroyed, and Supergirl goes against her double danger. They indeed have a matched contest, but without her new heart, Kara of Earth X is about to explode! Kara takes her far away from the battle, into space and she implodes! Earth X Oliver notices the explosion in the sky, and he is weakened by effects of losing his loved one. He forgets he’s fighting Earth 1 Oliver, and as he turns around, he is met by an arrow through the heart! The war of Earths is concluded! There is a funeral for the fallen professor Stein, Jefferson says his peace for his partner in battle and begins breaking down, so does everyone including Rory, but he claims its allergies lol. Everyone takes a turn in shoveling a piece of dirt in the pit, and saying a reason why they’re thankful for Stein. Post funeral, everyone is heading home to their cities/world to continue protecting it. Earth X Snart decides to stick around for a while, possibly the newest member of the Legends of Tomorrow. Barry and Iris decide to do a small doover with their wedding, so Barry runs to Star City to get John Diggle to help priest in this wedding. Of course he agrees to it, they say their vows, but is interrupted by Felicity to say she wants to marry Oliver now. Oliver agrees to it, but they’ll get their rings later. John Diggle pronounces Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, Barry Allen, and Iris West as husband and wife. They kissed their brides, and this concludes THE BEST CROSSOVER EVENT, CRISIS ON EARTH X! This is Pedro Vasquez signing off, hasta luego!
Thats a wrap this week Flash fans! Next week is the midseason finale. Next week Flash Fix will continue as it normally would.
