Talking Dead with Pedro: 8.4

Pedro Vasquez, Staff Writer

Welcome back, walker fanatics to the reaction of season 8, episode 4 of AMC’s hit television series, The Walking Dead. This season is action packed with character development, clutch saves, and all out war! Episode four began with King Ezekiel braiding his hair and putting on his kingdom attire after getting out of the shower. This turns out to be a flashback to before the Kingdom left for battle against the Saviors, as Ezekiel and his savage tiger Shiva stand before the Kingdom community and tell everyone that everything is at stake. They will fight, bleed, and still smile. The Kingdom will end the Saviors reign of terror and will face a dangerous road ahead. Ezekiel has firm confidence that they will win this fight and still be united as one! Reality comes back to Ezekiel as he escapes the pile of bodies on top of him. Ezekiel sees the carnage before him with all of the dead bodies surrounding him. Ezekiel now has a gunshot wound on his leg and sees the guts and body parts everywhere of his men. He shouts a battle cry, and with that, the undead begin to rise and target Ezekiel!

Ezekiel retreats from his undead army, and manages to kill one, but an unpleasant double click of his gun indicates he’s out of ammo. Lucky for Ezekiel, some Kingdom warriors are still alive and come to his aid.

Saviors responsible for the attack on the Kingdom pack up their sentry guns, and unfortunately for most of them, Carol is at the scene investigating. The Saviors meet a fatal end as Carol shoots at the Saviors from the roof she was camping at, killing most of them while some escaped with the heavy sentry guns.

Ezekiel and his aid continue walking away from the hoard of walkers following them, but the king’s aid meet an untimely end as he is shot in the chest by a Savior, and now takes the king hostage! Ezekiel is having a hard time standing up due to his injury. The king uses two of his guns that have ammo to kill some of the walkers, but knowing the Saviors and the jerks that they are, the kidnapper injure the King’s leg even more. Ezekiel then asks the Savior if Negan actually knew his real name, but the Savior replied, “I am Negan!” He also replied saying he thinks Ezekiel’s world is just a fantasy.

Carol was able to make it outside the Savior compound and found some Saviors putting the heavy sentry guns into their cars. Being a savage, Carol initiates a gun fight against the Saviors, and she is heavily outnumbered.

Ezekiel tries to fight back against the Savior using his cane as a weapon, but the Savior fought back, hitting Ezekiel over the head with his gun! Ezekiel and the Savior  walk towards the gate and find it’s locked, but the Savior used Ezekiel’s jacket as protection for himself to climb over the fence. The Savior leaves Ezekiel for dead, since Ezekiel can’t walk or climb. The Savior attacked Ezekiel once more, and as planned to pull the trigger and kill him. Lucky for Ezekiel once again, Jerry comes up behind the Savior and slices him in half with an axe bigger than himself!

Carol attempts to surrender herself to the Saviors she was fighting against. She pleaded to spare her life, in exchange for the location of her friends. She was able to use this as an advantage to attack a Savior and held a knife at his neck. The Saviors did not care about the life of their brother, so they opened fire on Carol, but were off with their accuracy and repeatedly shot the Savior held against his will. As Carol ran away, walkers began lurking behind the Saviors, and bit two out of the four Saviors.

Jerry attempts to open the gate using his axe, but was unsuccessful as the axe broke in half, and Jerry and the King fought off a hoard of walkers using the cane and a broken axe. If this was the end, Jerry would  say to Ezekiel, thanks for being such a cool dude. Carol notices Jerry and Ezekiel fighting the undead, horribly outnumbered! She has to make a choice to whether to kill the Saviors, or watch her friends die. She made the choice to help her friends.

The directors rewound to the Kingdom and  Ezekiel shared his origins story with Carol that he was a zookeeper. When the zombie outbreak occurred, he noticed Shiva the tiger about to be eaten by the undead, so Ezekiel saved her, and trained her to kill the undead and serve him as his personal guard.

Flashing back, Carol shut down the possible death scenes of Jerry and Ezekiel by shooting down the zombies that posed a threat, and let the Saviors walk free with the heavy machine guns. As the Saviors thought they were free, they thought wrong as Rick and Daryl lurked from behind and a road rage fight ensued with Saviors over the prize heave sentry guns! The Saviors tried using the guns for self-defense, but that didn’t work out as Rick and Daryl ultimately won and pushed the Saviors off the road killing him, and claiming their prize.

Ezekiel, Jerry, and Carol fight off walkers. Ezekiel wishes to die, but failure wasn’t an option for the others. Ezekiel claims he’s not the king anymore, but right when he says that, Shiva comes to the rescue eating the faces off the zombies! The numbers game was too much for Shiva, sadly Shiva the tiger is eaten and ripped apart by zombies.  As the trio returned home, the Kingdom community are shocked as they only see the return of those three!

Overall, this is another example of an action packed episode filled with character development and full on awesomeness within The Walking Dead! Back to the rating scale—leaning towards Daryl Dixon—the best episode thus far—Glenn Rhee (Very good episode), Rick Grimes (An average episode), Gregory, the Hilltop leader (Poor episode), and Spencer and Aidan Monroe (Each a terrible episode).  This episode deserves the highest ranking on the list—Daryl Dixon, the best episode thus far! Join us next week to see the return of Negan (FINALLY), and the fate of everyone post the battle at the Sanctuary.  Will King Ezekiel ever be the same again? This is Pedro Vasquez signing off, Ta-ta!
