Song of the Week: “Fast Car” by Jonas Blue

Song of the Week: Fast Car by Jonas Blue

Melissa Ng, Music Columnist

Sometimes you need to be reminded that the things you worry about are insignificant in the grand scheme of life. College? A Career? What about adventures? What happened to spontaneous moments? This cookie-cutter way of living is not the only option; there is more than the standard. People live so rarely on the edge and die without taking risks, yet music can remind you to be free.

Jonas Blue is a London-based music producer that is still up and coming on the music scene. He became noticed when his debut single “Fast Car” (featuring Dakota) became a global hit. His single is actually a remix of Tracy Chapman’s original song, but has been updated to be a dance floor anthem. Dakota added her own twist to the song with her rich and bold voice. If you like Kygo’s sound then you will definitely vibe with Jonas Blue.

Fast Car (ft. Dakota) by Jonas Blue is a tropical house blend that is easy to jam to. It has hit the #1 spot on the US viral chart on Spotify and #1 on the iTunes charts in the UK, Germany and Sweden. The song speaks about getting out a boring life, driving fast, starting a new life and making your place in this world. With the chill synths and silky baselines, the song will make you want to shift the meaning of your life right away.

This song is dedicated to Alexa Alioto who recommended (harassed) me to write about this song… love you lots!
