Tyler Kelly, XC and Track & Field at Rutgers

Name: Tyler Kelly

Sport: Cross Country and Track & Field

College: Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ

Why did you choose this school?

After taking my official visit, I fell in love with the team’s energy as well as the coaching staff. I could tell that they were striving to do something bigger, and I wanted to be a part of that.  Aside from sports, I knew I needed a good education and Rutgers School of Engineering is one of the best in the country. I knew that my school needs to work for me with or without track, and Rutgers University fits the bill.

What are you most looking forward to about playing in college?

I’m excited to continue being part of a team, always working together, always pushing each other. With Rutgers begin such a large school, there will always be someone to chase, which is something I live for. I love the grind of training every day to push myself to be best that I can be.

What will you miss most about playing at FTHS?

I’m just going to miss being around my teammates all the time. Running is a sport where you only have each other, and the bond we have between us is something really special and something I will cherish forever.

If you had to pick ONE favorite memory of playing at FTHS, what would it be?

My favorite memory has to be competing at the Penn Relays in the 4×800 my sophomore year. The energy and atmosphere in the stadium is indescribable. There is no other event like it. Not only that, I got to do it with my teammates that taught me so much. I was the newest addition to the relay team, and they brought me under their wings and allowed me to do me. I’m grateful for that and I’m grateful that I was able to contribute to such an amazing team.

Anything else you’d like the world to know?

I’d just like to thank everyone that has helped me to get to where I am today. I wouldn’t be in this position, or be the person I am now, if it weren’t for them, so thank you.
