Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, Brian May, and John Deacon. What do these names have in common? They are all a part of the legendary band known as Queen. Yes, they were popular in the 70s, but they are rising in popularity now as well, hence the fact they are the reason the movie Bohemian Rhapsody was made.

The movie stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury who gives us insight into what it was like being a part of the band, through creation, arguments, and even death. The movie and the plot was absolutely wonderful, and I would highly recommend taking the time to watch it. If you were to ask me before if I would watch some movie about a band from the 70s, I would have probably said no, and many other people from our generation may have said the same. The movie was neither ‘lame’ or ‘old,’ but has actually landed a spot in my all-time favorites.

The musical aspects and how the characters are portrayed are really what ties it together. Some of Queen’s hits like “We are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You” are truly classic ‘get up and sing’ songs that we all love. It does, however, get emotional in a scene for Live Aid. Mercury died of AIDS related bronchial pneumonia at the age of 45, but his bandmates had been by his side up until his death.

Rami Malek does a tremendous job playing Mercury; the same goes for Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, and Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon. Freddie Mercury, and Queen itself had a long lasting impact on the world and its music, and people all around are elated that the band is able to be remembered by this marvelous movie.
