February
- Selfie Super Bowl Kid
During Justin Timberlake’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl in February, one teen in the audience caught the attention of the many watching at home. On his phone when Timberlake was in the crowd, his attention quickly changed to the singer as he moved closer. The teen made sure he acted fast and snapped a selfie of him and singer, which was both cool yet very awkward for those watching on TV.
- Fergie Singing the National Anthem
At the NBA All-Star Game, Fergie sang a very… interesting rendition of the national anthem. Her version, as many remember all too well, was rather cringeworthy to watch. However, remixes of her performance, as well as faces of the players on the sidelines, quickly spread all over the Internet and became February’s next meme.
- Who Toucha My Spaghet
The line “Who toucha my spaghet?” originated in the 1939 cartoon The Three Bears, but surfaced on social media earlier this year. This was a rather odd thing to go viral, but it did. Remix videos of the line were spread on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more. Amassing millions of views in total, this was definitely one of this year’s weirdest memes.
- Change My Mind
Steven Crowder, a conservative political commentator and comedian, set up a table in February at Texas Christian University’s campus. The table had a sign that read “Male privilege is a myth. Change my mind.” Well, as any Internet user knows, posting a photo of yourself with a white sign is just a meme waiting to happen. The photo blew up, with photoshopped versions of the sign spreading everywhere.
