There’s a new club at FTHS and it’s baking up a storm for the needy.

The club, Cookies for a Cause, was created by senior Jonny Kandell, after his sister started the nonprofit organization to feed families affected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

As president of CFAC, Jonny gathers and manages volunteers who are assigned different days to bake cookies each month. The chocolate chip cookies are then delivered to Freehold Area Open Door, the local food pantry on Throckmorton Street, and made available to low income families.

Vice Presidents Sydney Frankel and Mike Maltese, both juniors at FTHS, also help to run CFAC, and Ms. Littman is the club advisor.

Jonny says, “The overall goal for CFAC is to fill as many stomachs with delicious homemade treats as possible!” The organization strives to give the needy a treat to brighten their day as a pleasant change from the canned food they receive normally.

Jonny’s and his sister’s work in the creation and running of the charity has prompted the formation of CFAC clubs at CBA and Freehold Borough High School. Jonny is actively seeking more bakers for the club. He says, “We have over sixty volunteers in CFAC scheduled to bake this month, and my goal is to reach one hundred by the end of the year!”
