But there were some significant results on the field.

Asbury Park upended two-time defending NJSIAA Central Group I champion Shore and snapped the Blue Devils’ 20-game winning streak. It was Shore’s first loss to a Shore Conference team since the 2013 NJSIAA Central Group I championship game, when Point Beach recorded a 12-7 win. Shore had recorded 13 straight wins over Shore Conference teams.

Also, Wall, which has not had a winning season since 2011, served notice that it could record a winning season this season with an emphatic come-from-behind 35-14 win at then-No. 9 Ocean.

Freehold Township, which has not had a winning season since 2004, could have one this fall after its stirring come-from-behind 16-12 win over Freehold. It was Freehold Township’s first win over the borough team since 2012.
