Picture this: a warm spring day set with a clear blue sky and golden rays of light; a meadow with flourishing wild flowers and sun kissed skin. A beautiful melody can be heard from off in the distance (probs from heaven) and seems to be floating through the air. 1965 by Zella Day would be the song that scores this tranquil scene flowing down from above.

Zella Day, or Zella Day Kerr, is a 20 year old Los Angeles based singer/songwriter. She was actually raised in a small mountain town near Phoenix, Arizona where her parents owned a café and an art space. Zella was surrounded by creativeness and genuineness which molded her love for music. According to Billboard, Zella Day, “blends modern pop with a touch of Western Bohemian flair.”

1965 is such a delicate song and has been detailed as dusty, nostalgic and light. The lyrics are wistful and her indie ode begins with being emotionally forceful to almost disconnected. Zella’s voice is golden and hypnotizing and her style and vocal ranges have often been compared to that of Lana Del Rey’s. This song not only reveals a glimpse into Day’s life, but also her past that still seems to preoccupy her.
