AMA’s Do Not Disappoint

Hailey Ruderman, Editor

The American Music Awards (AMA) are a huge deal in the music world. Artists from around the country, and even some from different countries gather to perform and win awards. Sunday, November 22, these artists celebrated with this show.

Jennifer Lopez hosted this award show and she started of singing a slow version of her 1999 hit “Waiting for Tonight.” Mid song, she threw her coat of and revealed a very sparkly one piece and started dancing to a remix of songs such as “Bad Blood,” “I Can’t Feel My Face,” “Thinking Out Loud,” and “Anaconda.”

To start off the performances of the night, 5 Seconds of Summer performed their new single “Hey Everybody!” and immediately after, Selena Gomez sang “Same Old Love.”

Lots of other artists sang too, like Carrie Underwood, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and Gwen Stefani. Meghan Trainor started off her performance with singing “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” without John Legend, and then went into singing “Marvin Gaye” with Charlie Puth. At the end of their performance, Trainor pulled Puth into a small make-out sesh, and it was soon all over social media.

While artists were performing and winning awards, Nicki Minaj did not smile once. While her song, “Anaconda” was playing during JLo’s opening number, and even when she won two awards, her frown never turned upside down.

As always, One Direction did not disappoint while serenading their audience with “Perfect.” Nick Jonas is finally making a comeback and sang three of his biggest hits this year, “Chains,” “Levels,” and “Jealous.”

More performances included Walk the Moon, Coldplay, The Weeknd, Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Alanis Moressete and Demi Lovato.

In honor of the terrorist attack in Paris on November 13th, Jared Leto shared a moving speech about his feelings toward the situation. He then announced Celine Dion singing a beautiful version of “L’Hymne à L’Amour.”

To end the wonderful award show, the a capella group sang Star Wars songs along with an orchestra, and Justin Bieber sang “What Do You Mean,” “Where Are U Now” and Sorry.

Overall, the AMA’s were full of fantastic music, beautiful dresses and awesome artists. Until next year.
